I have a special love for rock music art. The albums, the posters, the CD pamphlet art, it's all unique and fantastic. I even themed by RA door decks around this. Some of it becomes iconic, like anything Led Zeppelin related, while other bands are more indie-related. Scott Pilgrim (the book) even based some of its art around this aesthetic, while Brutal Legend was basically metal album: the game.

Personally, I love how Coheed and Cambrias music fits its art perfectly.

So, what album art, poster art, or art inspired by a musical album, do you like best?

I typically don't put a whole lot of thought or stock into what my favorite album covers are, but I definitely love this one. Maiden's best album (to me, at least).

Upon This Dawning has one of my favorite album art, hell it made me buy it over others.

I'd also feel bad if I didn't give credit to one album's artwork, that was me screensaver for months.

There is a lot more, but I'm far to lazy to post them all... so I'll just mention them.

-Tides of Man, Empire Theory
-A Lot Like Birds, Conversation Piece
-Hand Like Houses, Unimagine and Ground Dweller.
-A Day to Remember, What Separates Me From You.

Basically, anything minimalistic/classical statues is always cool in my book

I reallllyyyyy want to get the Liturgy cover as a tattoo, one cross per arm. That'd be fucking dope

Coming soon.....

It's simultaneously a creationist nightmare and great tattoo material, if I had tattoos. And there's a ton going on. Now that I think about it, I would really like to see somebody's back with a big, complicated thing like this.

Nothing says "This is going to be epic" quite like that album art does.

It just makes me want to go on an adventure in that world, as horrifying as it probably would be. I also really love the color scheme and architecture of everything.

Tonally, this is probably my favorite. The morbid sophistication of the skeleton combined with the bleak background is just oddly appealing.

I really have no idea what it is about that artwork. I just really, really like it.

For my all-time favourite album cover, it has to be Cryptopsy's None So Vile.

I know it wasn't designed for the album (it is a piece by Elisabetta Sirani from the 17th century) but it fits the album so well. The subject matter is gruesome and the music is barbaric but there is an elegance and artistry to it that makes it not only my favourite album cover, but my favourite album.

I like lots of different album covers though. When it comes to metal I typically prefer it when covers deviate from the standard Satanic/explicitly gory/offensive stuff. Sure I love bands like Disgorge and Defeated Sanity that have disgusting album covers and find them to be quite endearing, but if you want to grab my attention that's not the way to do it.

When I design album covers for my own stuff I tend to prefer minimalism because I am lazy because I like minimalism.

Oh man, I have too many.

Aside from being totally badass, it's also unique- You normally expect stoner rock/sludge bands to go with some intricate hand-drawn thing (not that I don't fucking love the stuff that John Baizley does), but this is so much more enticing.
I've linked it because I'm pretty sure it'll get shrunk if I just post it. [http://www.mastodonrocks.com/sites/g/files/g2000003806/f/201404/bg-video-com.png] Anyway, it's freaking awesome. The guy that made it- Skinner, makes loads of really trippy, intricate, weird art and demented children's toys.

Dan Mumford's done an absolute shitload of awesome artwork for metal/hardcore bands. He's got a really cool style, but his stuff is everywhere.

I'm too lazy to post many more, but all the stuff that John Baizley does for Baroness (which is his band, who also totally fucking rock), Kylesa, Kvelertak and Black Tusk is all really awesome. I tend to really dislike more traditional metal covers- I can appreciate the artwork, but it all feels a bit played out to me. Pretty much anything with human skulls, chains, weaponry... Meh.

Man I want a t-shirt of that. Not listened to much of the band but after looking at that I might start.

Anyway I really like this Bring me the Horizon cover. Not a massive fan of their's but I do think this is pretty cool

The thing I have found about Amon Amarth is, is that if you play it for metal fans who haven't heard it before, just the first ten seconds of Twilight will make them grin.

Oh and the band? They are really small accountant types, with glasses and gentle smiles andNOPE!!! All fucking giant reincarnated vikings.

Love these guys.

As for me, I don't really have a fave, so I reckon some Dimmu Borgir is in order.

EDIT: DAMN! How could I be so ignorant?

Got this shirt when I was like ten, and despite becomming a fatty and being like 25 years later, still have the shirt and it still fits(it was a large to begin with, when I was tiny I used to look like I was in a heavy metal dress)! This pic got me into metal, got me drawing in this style, got me where I am today.

That's... a little depressing, despite being mostly awesome.

Nope, I changed my mind.

It's all awesome.

A little too much metal in this thread for my taste. Here's a few of mine:

And if I had to pick metal album covers, I'm going for Dio ones any day of the week, especially this one:

I really prefer their colour schemes and more balanced covers, over the aggressive madness that you usually see.
