I'm always the kind of person to think of stories, but fail passed concept because my knack for getting to the point makes it hard fill in gaps between plots points.

Also my mind works much better just thinking to myself. Stopping to write ruins the train of thought. So far my best attempt at fixing this problem has been to write as fast as I can whilst my mouth spouts the thoughts as they come.

So one of my ideas for a story was to have a story that lacked a protagonist, that focused around the activities and interactions of people with extreme mindsets. I wanted to experiment to see what kind of negative personalities could be developed from certain limitations our current culture that didn't agree with certain people. I tried to give them a theme, and a point or subject of a specific turning point that they would revolve around.
So far I've only written the draft of a basic character background of one of them. I started with one of my favourite ideas since it was one that occurred to me that didn't seem to have been mentioned in fiction that I knew.
The writing obviously quite shit because I was never good at story writing, but I think it gets the character concept across well.
Life is so stagnant. Everything is a rut. Every day I would shoulder it, waiting for the rest of my life to start.
I must make do with my life as it is at the moment, so I may live later.
Low social standing. Sitting quietly in class. ?An oasis of calm?, as my teachers would say.
It was so boring. I needed change. I was tired of waiting for life to begin.

I realised I was getting older. Soon I would stop growing and simply start aging.
Get a job. Come in every day and do the same thing. Slowly dying.
Working simply to both sustain this life and fill it.
A zombie. Living just to live.
What a life. A quite pointless existence.

Sitting in class I used to wonder to myself ?Everything seems so immutable. There is no way to change fate. If I were to take out my anger. If I were to...take this stray chair, and beat my unfortunate neighbour across the face. Would anything change? Would the world even react? Would the universe allow it, or even be able to comprehend it??
I feel like the world would just stand still, or the universe would hold back my body somehow.

I had been pushed too far. I was too curious.
It had to be done.
While the teacher was talking, and everyone was taking notes, I picked up the stray chair next to me by the leg, stood up, and swang away. Feeling the air rush past my weapon.

In the moment it hit, everything went slow for me. The shatters of the plastic of its back flew out from it. He was slowly moving to the floor, as his blood to the air.

What a visceral action, sure to shake the foundations of this reality.
The universe has taken notice.
In this moment I had realised the greatest sin of all. Sloth. Of boredom.
In this moment they turned, and I grinned as I returned the stare.
The terror in the eyes began, sure not to end any time soon.

The oasis had plashed. The silence was broken. The zombie had bitten back. The die had been cast. And I liked it.
And in this moment, I vowed never to be bored again.
This is just the beginning of this character's attitude. In the story itself it's much worse, being quite literally random for the sake of it to keep things interesting, ignoring the consequences of the actions.
This was obviously inspired by my own thoughts (as you expect of any young adult with his head up his own ass writing a story) of comfort in taking things for granted. Being so used to things that I find it hard to believe they could actually change very drastically. As a sign of my sheer bad writing, most characters I think of are based on a single part of myself, an experience, or thought, or belief, or motivation I can relate to, and then built from there to become something far different than myself.

If you wanna see how I fair at review writing for entertainment, rather than fiction, here's my current draft of my review for Fate/Stay Night's anime series
Ladies and gentlemen, chances are, if you found this, you spend a lot of your time indulging in activities others might consider ?a waste of time?. They are often solemn, and involve dipping into fake worlds for hours at a time. Sometimes people will tell you how you're ?wasting your life?. So then it finally hits you that you might be. Things may just be passing you by, and you're too busy with your lonely activities. But then you remember the wise words that ?time wasted doing what you love is not time wasted?. And then you get to Fate/Stay Night and think ?I'VE WASTED MY FUCKING LIFE!?.

I want to tell you how much I hate this show. But I can't. Because I nothing this show. It is so incredibly dull that I need to use the word hate to properly deter you from wasting your time. Some shows have ups and downs. This show is a ruler, perfectly set to the world inbetween. There's nothing bad about it, and nothing good about it. It just is. The animation is boring, the story is dull, and the characters completely uninteresting.

My baseline example for a show worth watching, and for recommendations, is Eden of the East. It's not great, but it's decent. It's suitable for just about anyone. It's enjoyable, and stands out. It presents some interesting ideas, yet has some flaws. Stay Night has neither, in the worst way possible. A flaw is a hole in something good. When something isn't good, it shouldn't be surprising that I say it has no flaws. Because I can't be disappoinhted when there's nothing to be disappointed in.

Stay Night is a show about a guy named Shirou. Shirou suffers from a super hero complex. He always wants to help no matter how stupid it is to do so. Do not be fooled into thinking this makes him a guy like Wild Tiger. Y'know, a clumsy but well meaning guy who puts others above himself. No, this guy is just stupid. But when you think about it, it shouldn't really be surprising. Stay Night is based on a visual novel, so naturally Shirou's character would be extracted from an empty player character, and given traits that ensure the plot moves forward. Except, in the visual novel, he HAD character. I've ben informed by a friend who is a fan of Fate games that the visual novel is actually GOOD. So there's one problem.

It's actually quite a big problem, because the show fails to make me care about him at all. In the first four episodes that I watched the first time I tried to get through this, he dies, not once, but TWICE. Did I care? No. In fact the show was so dull that I couldn't even muster enough emotion to feel at all happy about his suffering. I just didn't care.

Anyway, in the show Shirou becomes part of a secret war of mages, where they summon a familiar based on a historical or mythical figure, placed into a fighting class, such as Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Berserker, and Assassin. And in this war, they fight for the prize of the Holy Grail to grant them a wish. Seems interesting enough, and yet the show does everything in it's power to make sure it isn't.

Y'see, Fate games have multiple routes. In stay night, those routes are the Fate route, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. Due to the fact that a later film adaption exists called Unlimited Blade works, you would suspect that this is the Fate route. Except it's not. It's actually a sort of mix, which I could understand since, at the time, I imagine they thought they'd only be making one series. But in doing this, they've made it shit. There is no specific goal, because it spends too much time trying to accomplish everything.

My friend has a little analogy for Fate Stay Night. The Fate route is like bread. Dull and boring. Unlimited Blade Works is like toast. Decent. Y'know, a pretty standard breakfast. And Heaven's Feel is like beans of toast with scrambled eggs and bacon on top.

So I really shouldn't expect much from this series, primarily being the Fate route and all.
Except... I like bread.
...I'd rather eat bread.
I'd RATHER eat bread than watch Fate/ Stay Night.
As you can tell, so far it's pretty bad at explaining the show's actual concept, and mostly plays around with descriptive ways to tear holes in it. I in no way plan all reviews to end up like this, but my strong opinion on the show was what motivated my fingers to actually write it.
An older example of more unstructured, but quite thorough reviewing (although now there's probably bits I'd add to it) would be my rant on why I dislike Fable 3 in comparison to the older ones, present on this very site: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.242016-God-I-hope-Molyneux-reads-this
Also, some complaints may be a bit inaccurate due to me finding parts of the game's system hard to understand. Mostly to do with buying commodities. But I would hardly consider this my "writing". It's far more like a standard post of mine but super ranty.

So I'm not a good writer, and don't really plan to be one. Certainly not in a written way at least. I have quite the problem with pacing written words. I do quite enjoy thinking up stories though.
But I currently lack the required skill to represent any story except in text, sadly. It's unfortunate because I'm a much more visual person, so would prefer if it was mixed with visual cues.

I used to love to write, to lose myself in a story and world that I'd created. But I've had a really hard time writing now for ten years. I'm much to easily distracted and have a really hard time focusing. That doesn't stop me from trying every year during NaNoWriMo though. Here is something I wrote 2011; it's a first draft, and I'd skipped over some scenes to ostensibly write them later but as you can see I didn't write more than three rather lacklustre chapters. Still love the idea I had though and maybe one day I'll revisit it and rewrite it.

Skimming through it now I am cringing at certain passages, but I had meant to go back and rewrite it so it wouldn't be quite so... stupid. I was trying to get to the 50,000 words that is the NaNoWriMo goal and so instead of mulling over every sentence like I usually do I just wrote wrote wrote. I only got to past 1/10 of the word goal before giving up =(

Premise? Steampunk meets magic, or something to that effect.

I write on and off in a live journal that I've been keeping since rounghly 2006. I'm not linking it here though...one day but not today. Other than my livejournal thing, I've done all sorts of writings; fan-fiction on fanficiton.net, reviews here and on gamefaqs.com (possibly elsewhere: I can't remember) and, original short stories on deviantart. Here are a few things if anybody is interested:

Legend of Zelda review on GameFAQs
Top 10 strangest things that help you out on GameFAQs
A short look at 4 E3 demos I got to play thanks to the Nintendo/Best Buy 2013 E3 event
A review of The Room/ The Room midnight experience guide kinda thing
A short story written years upon years ago
Another short story written years-upon-years ago

...

Wasn't expecting to have put up that much...oh well: enjoy if you wanna. I've been posting on these forums since 2009 so I guess it's high time I self promote shit that I've done months-to-years ago.

I have been writing something on and off for about a year now. Think classic medieval style with a couple of dragons and draconic magics thrown in.

It is currently around 47,000 words I think but that could be spaced tremendously more because there are one or two scenes which I think "that progressed to quickly" or "MY god the dialogue setup in that scene is awful". I am close to finishing I think in terms of story because I could end it within this chapter and finish the rest in another story I could write that is a continuation of this one if I ever get round to it.

I have no links for my writing but if anyone is interested they could PM me and I will try and find a way of getting it to them.

Been working on a story. Have most of the outline done, but I'm cutting out bits and pieces of it. Still having a lot of trouble with a couple important points, but I might actually start actually writing it one of these days instead of thinking of parts and writing single scenes. I know the biggest problem I have is that while I can write a good action scene, I can't do quiet moments. Been trying to work on that.

As for other things, I actually tend to write reviews for movies and stories... and then I delete them. Mostly because I don't have the initiative to look for images and take care of formatting. Plus I tend to write these for comic book story arcs, and I doubt anyone would be interested in those.

Been enjoying reading a lot of these. Makes me want to write some more. :)

I haven't written anything worth while in a long time, but I still write a poem or two every once in a while. Here's a few of 'em.

I think I found a friend today.
His hair is wild,
And skin is dark.

He says he lives not far away
Maybe the woods
Next to the park?

His clothes are crazy, fierce, and free.
How he is warm
I cannot see.

He laughs no matter what the mood,
And rarely is he
Mean or rude.

He's always kind when I'm alone
And sets such
Wonderful a tone

I haven't seen him lately though
Where he is now I do not know.
I hope he will come back some day,
I miss him more than I can say.

Useless animal, down on life.
Useless animal, crying loud.
The murky image stains his fur.

The coming moonlight brings him tears
And rolling clouds surround him.

The policy that kept him madly grinning
He tore it up and left it
And felt his heart beat warmly.

Musical therapy soothes the heart,
While a loser's outfit scrapes the mind.

Electric monsters crowd the eyes,
But friendly memories greet the soul.

The sun comforts the tired skin,
Though shadows feed on feeling.

A fenced-in kiddie sees the sky,
And dreams of distant freedom.

The first one is kinda crap, and the second two are revisions of older poems I wrote. Feedback is welcome.
See, I think your first one is the best one.

OT: I have nothing to contribute because I'm far too lazy for this type of thing.I've got ideas and shit but can't be arsed putting them on paper or e-paper.

I've done a little bit of creative writing here and there. I also have a few ideas for novels bouncing around my head.

But I just can't get motivated enough to sit down and write anything new.

Nonetheless, this page has everything I've written [http://ecoeclipse.deviantart.com/gallery/]. I can't possibly recommend any single work to you, because as its creator I think it's all pretty shit.

I like to write little short stories mostly for my own entertainment (and occasionally the entertainment of friends and family), along with being a DM and trying to come up with interesting backgrounds and story lines for my players. Eventually, I started putting these things on a blog page, though.

If you want some kind of absurdist silliness, you could try My Time with Ché: http://avoidingtherapy.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-time-with-che.html

If you're into the RPG World creation thing I'd suggest this one, titled Epic Barbarian Chieftain: http://avoidingtherapy.blogspot.com/2009/11/epic-barbarian-chieftain.html

Then there's the longer storyline that started out as several short stories, but have become a much longer narrative over time, about a man with ego issues who falls in love with a very plain woman, another with OCD and a co-dependant relationship, and the Secret Agent posing as a sexy Russian exchange student who somehow brings them all together. That one's called Grand Romantic Delusions, and begins here: http://avoidingtherapy.blogspot.com/2009/11/decision.html

There's also an as-yet-unfinished fantasy novel I did for NaNoWriMo a couple of years ago, Dreams of Willow and Ash, which begins here: http://willowandash.blogspot.com/search/label/Chapter%2001%3A%20The%20Eyes

And of course there are all the opinion things I write, also on my Avoiding Therapy blog.

I am now going to go look at some of the links the rest of you have posted, starting with the OP, as I actually like to see the things other people are writing outside the "mainstream" and "fan fiction" genres.

~Cheers!

I really like the first one. I can't put my finger on why, I just really do. It's light and happy and wistful, and then turns a little sad and evokes longing.

I think my issue with the first one probably has something to do with the wording I was thinking of when I was writing it. I really like using unorthodox words, which that poem kind of lacks, and seeing if the reader can figure things out, but I guess that's just personal preference.

Interesting that you think the first one is "kinda" crap, because I quite like it. Not sure if that says more about your poetry or my taste, though! I guess, like anything else in the artistic realm, a lot of it comes down to personal preference, experiences, and the like.

Thanks for sharing!

My first poem ever, Lovecraftian ofc.

There sat a nigh ancient house
On the hill upon which heathens used carouse
None who moved there would stay for very long
Cause at night they could swear hear a song
Of gibberish words telling a haunting tale
About the things that night did unveil
Of the impossible beings waken under that mound

The last folks who lived there once came fleeing into town
Surely having fled from that which gave the house its renown
But their tale was different, of strange noises it did tell
Sounds of eons lost, echoing clearly from that old well
A party was gathered and set out at noon
Poor Thomas was sent down the ladder soon
His screams saw the whole house burned to the ground

If anyone does bother to follow the linky, I highly recommend checking out the rest of the articles, because the various other featured contributors write much better articles than I do :p

EDIT: I just realised I should probably be using this golden opportunity to promote the site a bit more, since we're relatively small and many of you won't have heard of us. We're regular features in Critical Distance and semi-regular in the Penny Arcade Report, we focus on intelligent writing about video games and geek sundries, and we'd love to hear from you if you have a piece in mind.
Wow, that is a cool site. Thanks for introducing me to it. As for your writing, I've only read 'A Link to My Past So Far'. Liked it a lot, it connected with how I feel about the current games market. I'll definitely be reading more of your stuff soon.

I self-published my first novel in March of this year. Well-reviewed (so far) but not widely read. Maybe I haven't given it enough exposure yet, I don't know.

Anyway, the premise is that a distant world has been liberated from an oppressive alien empire. Our hero, Ruan Altman, has been tasked with assisting in the post-occupation recovery, however he has been roped into an investigation hunting Imperial collaborators. Unbeknownst to him, his lover is one such collaborator.

Honestly, I would love it if I could just get more coverage/people talking about it.

You can buy the complete eBook ($4.95)here: http://www.amazon.com/Wounded-Worlds-Nihil-Novum-ebook/dp/B00BVG1394
Or the first seven chapters for $0.99 here: http://www.amazon.com/Wounded-Worlds-Nihil-Novum-ebook/dp/B00DEW40S4

Please, have a look and if you like what you see and think your friends would like it too -for goodness' sake- SPREAD THE WORD!

Enjoy if you want! Most of these ones are pretty old- I'm currently trying to write an original story and I actually posted on this very site for recommendations of a site with higher quality standards than ff.net (no obvious spelling/grammar errors, no slash...). I do want to eventually finish Ogre Battle though since I've added so much to the game's plot it feels closer to an original story anyway.

Captcha Skynet is watching.
