I'm not so much interested in the "why", I just know out of experience it's true. Meh.

I think it's a myth - hair often looks thicker when shorter (on your head at least), which is how this came about.

Actually it doesn't.

For hair to grow thicker the follicle must be stimulated, as this is beneath the skin and only stimulated by hormones shaving the hair will not make it grow quicker or thicker.
But does it grow more when it comes back? Before I shaved for the first time my dad and brother told me if I shaved my peach fuzz would be less peach fuzz and more beard, like there'd be more of it

If that's true, then explain why certain hair (eyebrows, lashes, arm pit hair, etc) grows to a certain length, and then stops.
The longest hairs fall out regularly enough to keep the whole lot at roughly the same length.

False.

Shaving does not make it grow back faster. Hair is dead skin cells, and taking off the old layer of them does not make them come back faster. You shave more as you grow older because you have more dead cells.

Total Myth. Hair is not alive, it is dead cells. Cutting hair does not change the folacle. It may seem to grow back faster because the small amount it regularly grows is more noticable when the hair is very short.

It has alot more to do with your DNA, and weather or not you are healthy. Cutting with frequency will only change the length of it, not the rate at which it grows, or the thickness.

It could be true, but what I heard is that shaving makes it grow more "thicker"

I don't know about shaving, but whenever I get my haircut it seems to grow back REALLY quickly and then slows down after it's got longer.
Is this just perception though? A 1/4 inch growth on hair 1/4 inch doubles the length, while if the hair is 6 inches a 1/4 inch is barely noticeable.

It seems like it might be true.....but I am doubtful. I dunno, it seems likely. Can't be sure though.

It works with pruning on plants, why shouldn't it work with hair?
And it certainly works on your head, I used to only need to give my head-stubble a trim once a week, now it's every other day.

thing that gets me is why the hell is their ginger hiars in my stuble? Ive got black hair so where does it come from?
That's a really good question. I don't get ginger hairs, I get blonde ones. Might be better or worse, though I'm sure they stick out more against a regularly black beard.

I think it just looks like it grows faster because the difference between no-hair to short-hair is more noticeable than short-hair to long-hair.

It's all hokum.

I once shaved off my beard (which takes months for me to get looking like an actual beard in the first place) to settle an argument and it was just as slow as always in coming back.

Now I won't let anyone near it with cutting/shaving implements.

*strokes beard* I love you beardy.

It's never been scientifically proven, but I could see it making sense. For the most part - I don't believe it.

It does. i only started shaving a year ago, only needed to shave about once a fortnight when i first started now i need to every other day. When you shave or cut hair it grows back faster. Although it is a gradual process.
