Shenmue Creator Reveals How the Series Would Have Ended

Gamers around the world never found out how the ambitious Shenmue saga was meant to end - but creator Yu Suzuki thinks the world ought to know.

Fans of Shenmue - Ryo Hazuki's epic tale of crime and revenge - have been waiting a decade since 2001's Shenmue II to Shenmue City [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_285/8455-Lost-in-Yokosuka].

It's been long enough, hasn't it? Comedy team Mega64 caught up with Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki and asked him to reveal all [http://mega64.com/2011/03/07/mystery-solved-yu-suzuki-tells-us-how-shenmue-was-going-to-end/]: How, they asked, was Shenmue originally planned to end?

Surprisingly, he told them. It's an epic tale of hoverboards, shotgun arms and forklift races, to be sure. It's a sad thing that such an epic ending never made it into the hands of gamers everywhere, but at least now we can finally have closure.

In case you haven't figured it out, it's all a joke, of course. Serious props to Mr. Suzuki for saying all of that with a straight face. We still may not know how Shenmue was going to end, but at least we all got to see Cliff Bleszinski as a hippie being set on fire. And you know what? I think that makes it worth it.

Oh how I wish the final one was released... And knowing how it would have played out makes it just that much more disappointing that we didn't get to play it.

I genuinely laughed out loud. An awesome video.

I know I couldn't have finished off my big dream project years later as a straight faced video for a comedy site, the man has my respect.

Damnit! Shenmue has completely let down. Since the first game they've been building up to that moment and this video completely ruined it, so much so that I'm not even bothered about the game being released anymore.

Why. The. Hell. Can. I. Not. Participate. In. The. National. Forklift. Racing. Grand. Prix!?

This is utterly disgraceful, no more purchases of Sega published products ever.

I bought a Dreamcast just to play Shenmue, but I couldn't find a working copy. I would love an XBL release of this game.

I like that Yu Suzuki obviously has a sense of humor, but I've been wanting them to release Shenmue 3 for too long to not be disappointed by this, if more people had played Shenmue we'd already have the conclusion by now, anyone who hasn't played it should be ashamed, ASHAMED I SAY!...if you playyed it but didn't like it that's fine but I wish more people had played it, the Dreamcast was a good console for it's time and Sega obviously had enough faith in Shenmue to at least re-release Shenmue 2 on the Xbox, (I got an xbox just to play it) but still nobody played it because everyone was too busy jerking off playing Halo! NO I WILL NOT SHUT THE F*CK UP! lol

seriously though if anyone hasn't played Shenmue yet, you're missing something,
