Oh wow.

I've not been the greatest sherlock fan- I like the supporting characters but not the bloke himself (Benedict.)

But the series finale was amazing. Absolutely outstanding. There was the right amount of emotions, some good twists (although I called one early on, the others, not so much) and the plan/setup... sublime.

10/10 BAFTA best writers for 2017.

As entertaining as ever, I was certainly hooked by the ending of episode two and it held my interest through the finale but I couldn't help but be let down by the final resolution.

Still annoys me that they keep conflating Sherlocks abilities with actual superpowers.

The first episode was trying to be a spy thriller.
The second episode was trying to be Sherlock.
The third episode was trying to be a psychological thriller.

I wanted to like it but it isn't what I watch Sherlock for. I watch it for the personal drama/heavy plot/smart people outsmarting each other. Last night had none of that. It had a psychotic woman who was amazingly well played being manipulative and in control.

Things that didn't make sense.
Why bother with the boat if Mycroft can just waltz in and be in control.
He took moriarty to see Holmes lady, why can't he just walk Sherlock in there.
Why would Mycroft not spy on the meeting between the two Holmes siblings and be watching some old reviews.
The jealousy motivation makes no sense... She's a sociopath and the little girl on a plane/her having a breakdown just makes no sense.

They tried to wrap up too many points in substandard writing.

You're joking, right? This was the worst episode of a TV show that I have seen in many years. The entire season has been crap but the finale takes the crap cake. Nothing made sense. It was an insane mishmash of poor ideas poorly executed. Where's the intelligent crime solving, the believable mysteries and the interesting but ultimately entirely human characters? Why is Sherlock not the oddest one in the room anymore? That's what makes Sherlock. Not this almost supernatural crap filled with plot holes and insane logic holes. Holy fuck it was so bad.

And I thought season 3 was bad. Yeesh.

The final ep was just all kinds of awful. The more I think of it, I get angrier and find it more stupid.

It's all "Hello Sherlock fans. Look at Sherlock, now observe the plot, now back to Sherlock, now back to the plot. Sadly, this isn't really Sherlock, but we saw a psychological thriller and figured we could do one too. Look to Watson, over to Hudson. What's that? A one off referential joke about a brother that was once mentioned in the source. What's that prop? Back to Watson, that joke is now part of the plot! Back to Hudson, that brother is now his sister! Dumbfounded yet? Here's Sherlock's childhood memory of his dog. Guess again, THE DOG IS NOW HIS BROTHER."

I mean, sure, why not have the sister somehow no evidence of ever made its way past Sherlock, and is so gosh darn smart she can make people do whatever she wants, but how in the hell is she able to get so many people to put together so many of her stupid tests/games without anyone finding out when she's been exposed to like, all of three people during her confinement? And how in the hell does Sherlock, fucking Sherlock, never pick up on not one but two other siblings he somehow forgot about? There would have been evidence that any schmo would have picked up on. Pictures, relatives mentioning them, HIS PARENTS MENTIONING THEM. These are loving people, there's no way that after losing two of their kids at such a young age they would just never bring them up again.

And I don't know if England has the death penalty or not, but after all the shit she pulled, out of their ass mastermind sister would have gotten the chair for sure by the end.

Season 4 had its moments (hell, the last ten or so minutes of the second episode made me cry), but this was just garbage.

Second episode was alright on its own. But because it was used as a part of the plot that sets up the abysmal finale it has been tainted forever.
