Shinzo Abe, former Japanese Prime Minister has allegedly been shot during a campaign speech at the Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara.
The situation is developing, with NHK saying the former PM was showing no vital signs. A witness also told the broadcaster they heard two gunshots and saw someone with a firearm.
A man in his 40s has been taken into custody by the Nara police, though undoubtedly the Japanese security services will also be interviewing and interrogating him.
