Dear The Escapist people.
I'm feeling bored and havn't played any new strategy games in a while so I've been shopping around. I've narrowed my choice down to ~£13 for Empire Total War with Napoleon thrown in and all the DLCs there apparently are, or Shogun 2 for £20.

Which should I go for? I'm a big fan of the total war series, although I prefer the game map to the actual combat. Advice?

Shogun 2, hands freaking down. No contest. End of story.

It is infinitely better than empire.

I agree. I have greatly familiar with both and would highly recommend Shogun 2 over empire, although empires is good shogun 2 just walks all over it.

Although if you are going to get shogun 2 you may want to consider getting the Sengoku Jidai DLC with it. The Rise of the Samuari is a seperate campagin you can buy later if you wish so, i believe it's comes out some time this month. The Ikko Ikki Will add an additional Player Faction so you may want to look into that as well. Good luck and i hope you enjoy what ever game.

Both/all three are great, tbh it really just depends what time period you're more interested in.
Shogun probably has more online players but i cant really confirm that seeing as i havent played empire/napoleon online in a while.
Also Shogun is still receiving DLC support and other updates, so there's still new content coming out to play.

I haven't played Shogun 2 yet, but I've heard it's an improvement on Empire. Empire with all the DLC is great fun, but it's kinda buggy. There were some campaigns I could never end, becaus of a bug that brakes your savegame because the AI does something that leads to a CTD. This problem is apperently fixed in Shogun.

I cant really say whether one is better than the other, I always have a blast with either of them, accorsing to steam 150+ hours invested in each. But if your PC can run Shogun 2, then I say go for that one, it is often frustration at its finest, which is why I love it.

Alternatively you might also want to get Napoleon first, and play that for a while before getting Shogun. It's a great game in its own right, and that way you'll enjoy both of them, instead of painfully noticing the downgrade when playing Napoleon after Shogun.

Shogun 2 was a huge save from the mediocre Empire. I hope they will put the same effort into Rome 2.
