What video game do you think is going to be blamed this time?

I was going to say Skyrim, but then I took a gunshot in the knee.

IT MUST BE VIDEO GAMES.
While I get as pissed off when games are blamed for stuff like this as everyone else on this site, I think the bigger issue here is that there is a homicidal maniac on the loose in a school full of kids as we speak. Get some perspective. Also, making jokes about it while its still happening, that's definitely too soon.

OT: How can this possibly happen twice in the same place! You would think, after the first time, they'd make the security on campus much tighter.
At this point it's less of a joke, and more foresight. You know it's going to happen. "he was bat shit crazy" is never good enough for the general public, so they have to blame something.

Maybe they'll consider letting people carry on campus now so they can defend themselves.

Christ, again? Well, can't wait for a few months of "ZOMG GAEMS R EVUL", followed by a psychological evaluation of the suspect that shows he's fucking crazy, followed by continued "ZOMG GAEMS R EVUL".

Well, I know which University I'm defenitly not going to. Twice in 5 years? That's some really shitty luck right there, I know that something like this can happen literally anywhere, but why Virginia Tech again?

Again? What?! how?!
Once again my opinion that GUNS R BAD has been validated!
Hopefully no one else gets hurt though...

Why do they always shoot themselves at the end anyway?

I think they're saying that it was a Traffic Stop gone bad, not a premeditated event. Sucks for those who were on campus on the earlier one...

And it's highly unlikely video games will be blamed for this

He shot a cop. I'm pretty sure security was not a deterrent.

Good thing everyone can bear arms. After all, when everyone has guns everyone can defend themselves and others from madmen like this.

two people, including a police officer have been shot and killed
Oh.

Sorry dude, this is the internet. We reserve the right to rip on anything regardless of poor taste.

OT: My money says the guy isn't even on the campus anymore. If he shot the cop at a simple traffic stop then it's a safe bet that he's already booked it as far away from there as he can on foot. Can't speak for why he'd shoot someone else, no witnesses maybe? Still, it's an unfortunate coincidence but a coincidence all the same. It wouldn't be worthy of national/global news had it happened near any other campus.

Don't bring that up. The GOP will tell you the solution is MOAR GUNZ

Again, I have to say that there are more important things going on here than the reputation of our precious hobby. Priorities, we need to get them.

Im not sure giving everyone on the campus free reign to have firearms would reduce the chances of this type of incident happening, this would make the process of bringing weapons to class mundane and any prospective loon will find the initial phases of his/her killing spree much easier.

I won't argue it would make the killing sprees shorter though (since the victims would be armed), but meh... The idea of arming everyone to make everyone safer seems contradictory to me. Metal detectors at the entrances instead maybe? :\

You're trying to drain the ocean with a straw. Perhaps you're fine with that, but I figured it should be mentioned.

At VT, again??

I thought some moron revived a thread from years ago when I first saw this.

On-topic: 100 bucks that he was in illegal possession of the gun. Most anti-gun laws do jack shit. If somebody wants a gun for evil, they're usually gonna get it, and even if they don't, it doesn't deter them. They still commit the act, usually with something completely legal like a kitchen knife or a baseball bat.

However, the only thing that prevents you from being on the other end of the barrel is being intelligent, and being aware. The gun is a last resort in terms of your own personal survival. The cop died because he was approaching the situation casually, which tells me either that its a really complacent/stupid cop, or that the guy who did it was a good enough actor that he probably could've just driven away if he didn't panic.
