So lately I've been noticing a lot of games that have shopping carts in them. A few examples would be: Prototype, Fallout 3, Crackdown? Can't really remember many more, but I've been wondering why. I think it's kind of funny but very random. Especially Prototype.

Is it some kind of new fun thing developers are doing?
What do you guys think is the reason for it?

I think because it's a random object you can find anywhere. And can be used for great fun :D

Don't forget DeadRising! The shopping cart covered in pitchforks and other pointy objects in the supermarket bit... Good times...

There were shopping carts in Prototype? The only shopping carts I know of are in Fallout 3 and in Dead Rising.
Yup. Around the infected places, I threw a couple at some pedestrians.

I noticed them in Fallout. Figured they were appropriate since they were in stores. :p
Though I did randomly find shopping carts in one of the vaults. Makes no sense.

Really? I only noticed the tanks shooting me from every corner trying to kill me... And failing.
Haha well I guess I've got the eye for shopping carts.

Maybe they got bored and wanted to race each other in shopping carts?

It's and item most can use to relate to our world. It's something everyone uses. Adds realism.
Really? Hmm...Idk why they would really try to add realism to games like Prototype and Crackdown. It does add realism in Fallout though.

is it to add the slight realism or aesthetic value of a real world object? this is as stupid as asking why they put telegraph pole on the streets of these games.
But telegraph poles belong on the streets. A shopping cart in the middle of an infected horde is a little different.

Jackass the Game also had them.
what is the point of making a jackass game, wasnt the whole point of the tv show hoping the idiots would somehow either kill themselfs or sterilize themselfs, you know, take themselfs out of the gene pool

vault 106, they said they added it to add to the creepiness, can't see how that is creepy though.
