I noticed them in Fallout. Figured they were appropriate since they were in stores. :p
Though I did randomly find shopping carts in one of the vaults. Makes no sense.
vault 106, they said they added it to add to the creepiness, can't see how that is creepy though.
Oh yeah now I remember. The shopping cart spawns behind you, creating a noise as it falls to the floor. Though why they choose to have a shopping cart produce the noise is beyond me.

What is up with them always trying to "scare" us in Fallout? I just recently got the Point Lookout DLC (Best DLC yet in my opinion btw) and they did it again in that one cave. Don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone so I won't mention the cave.

I don't know. I've heard that things like the Dunwich building was Bethesda trying to use the Fallout 3 engine to produce a segment of a horror game. Something to do with them trying to apply the horror elements used in Call of Cthulu:Dark Corners of the Earth. I don't know the exact specifics of what they are trying to accomplish with this.

To be fair, the horror segments of Fallout 3 would be more scary if you didn't have super armor and super weapons. No ghoul can stand up to Shishkebab.

So Bethesda might be working on a new horror game?
I don't know about the Shishkebab. The Ripper is by far a better ghoul murderer.

Oh I have. Actually I have today in Plik's Safari when I tested to see what melee weapon I would own more ghouls with on very hard, and the Ripper won. But were getting a little off task. So umm...shopping carts are silver?

So lately I've been noticing a lot of games that have shopping carts in them. A few examples would be: Prototype, Fallout 3, Crackdown? Can't really remember many more, but I've been wondering why. I think it's kind of funny but very random. Especially Prototype.

Is it some kind of new fun thing developers are doing?
What do you guys think is the reason for it?
Am i the only person who was annoyed that I couldnt grab a shopping cart and fill it full of junk and take it home with me in fallout3??

You are for sure not. I went to one of the grocery stores and found a shopping cart and said to myself "Hey, I'm going to go shopping!" So I tried putting an item in it and the item just hovered above the cart and fell off when I moved the shopping cart again. Major sad face.

You had to point this out. It's like when someone tells you about your tongue and you can't stop poking the inside of your mouth with it. Now that you've mentioned it I'm constantly spotting them. I could be fighting a super mutant--hey look, shopping carts.

I'm going to gather them all up and build you a shrine in my house in Megaton.
Terribly sorry, but you'd be the coolest person if you made me a shrine!

Yup. Around the infected places, I threw a couple at some pedestrians.

GTA4 had shopping carts. AND YOU COULD KILL PEOPLE WITH THEM.
You can also push players around in them if you go online. Even though they turn invisible.

They're commonplace an fun to throw, I guess. either that, or it's a lead-up to some kind of multi-developer shopping cart simulation that will reshape the industry.

I think you might be on to something.
