At what point can we be equal? It wasn't actually the us of now that had anything to do with it. Honestly, if you want to go back into my family history a major part of it is Cherokee. They died rather than be slaves. Sitting on a reservation is in no way restitution. It is just another form of slavery if you ask me. The other part of my family history is very poor Tennessee and West Virginian's. At no point in time has anyone in my family ever been in a position to be slave owners and were more likely to be slaves themselves. So how long should a group of people that have little control over the future and no control over the past "take it on the chin"?Maphysto said:Meh, given that white people have a good 500 years' history of oppressing everybody that isn't white, I think we can take it on the chin for a little while.
OT:
If it is used as a racial slur it is a racial slur. Why it seems that some are acceptable and some are not is beyond me. We really cannot move past perceived inequalities until we move past attacking each other based on visual differences. Besides, it is just an easy road to take whether it is race, weight, looks... be more creative.
