Should "Cracker" be a racial slur?

I don't take it offensively but it's kind of a double standard to allow us to be called crackers when the second we go on the offensive it's dubbed racism.

Well, that's because of, uh... slavery

So it's not racism because slavery happened? That makes a whole lot of sense. Like I said, I really don't care about people using it as an insult, I care about the hypocrisy.

Seeing as it was used to keep down an entire race of people for, oh, about 250 years, I kind of think it is. How about any kind of insult directed at a person's race, something they can't choose, is bad?

Since it has a similar connotation, if black people can call whites 'crackers' whites should be allowed to call blacks 'niggers.' Kinda dickish to use either, but it's only fair; if they can use racial slurs, we should be allowed to as well.

Basically, I'm saying if you want me to take you seriously, don't use the word. Cause if you call me that, I'm going to think "that is one stupid fucker." And I'm going to treat you like you're retarded. Fortunately, most people have basic goddamn manners.

No white people can never call black people the n word no matter what. Even if they call a white person cracker.

The n word brings up 400 years of slavery, while cracker brings up what? An eternity of land owing and prosperity? I don't care if anyone calls me a cracker...let them, the white man can take the hit.

So, basically, as long as it has nothing to do with slavery, any slur is OK? So it's within perfect etiquette if I go around calling people kites, fags, japs, slanties, skinnies, and whatever else comes to fucking mind, just because we never enslaved them? A racial slur is a slur in the here and now, and they all have similar connotation. Just because slavery once existed is no excuse to say "ok, that one is a bit worse, so it's not OK, but the rest are." I hate to say anything is an "all or nothing" situation, but this kinda is; either we are discriminating, or we aren't. There are no half-ways.

I obviously didn't mean that. Of course no racial slurs are ok, even ones that have nothing to do with slavery. I am just saying that "cracker" can never be on the same level as "******, fag, kike, etc" because it was the "white man" (please resist the urge to take me extremely literally here, ok buddy?) who created most of these terms in the first place.

Yea the white man can take the hit. There are half-ways when white people are responsible for almost all the genocide, oppression, slavery, and generally everything that bad that has ever happened in the world ever. It is kind of weird that you'd actually be offended by someone calling you cracker...like really? You honestly think it is that bad? How are we even having this argument?

Of course I don't personally take responsibility for the mistakes of all white people, but I am saying that because of the past no white person should really be offended by cracker, you'd have to be really insecure to honestly care about something like that.
