No, it should be optional(Unless the game requires you to use a mic e.g. L4D or Portal 2)

NO!!!
I hate voice chat in games. I don't care how good of a shot you are or what your retarded strategy is. Its usually 'Stand here and absorb bullets while I have fun'.

I don't care how much you paid for your headset either. If I really wanted to voice chat online I'd pay $5 for some K-mart brand mic.

If any game when voice chat only I wouldn't play it. Or I'd plug in the headphones and leave them on the table. I don't want to hear your screechy voice or your witty jokes or any off that bull****. Just shut up and play the game.

No, I pretty much never play online, but if I ever do I don't want to either be forced to use the built in mic on my laptop or figure out why the mic on my headset doesn't work.

No. I mute most voice players. People tend to overestimate how much people want to hear them talk.

Why should every one who does not wish to waste money on a mic be excluded. I understand it makes organization easier since you don't have to type and read but that does not mean it should be a necessary part.

OH HELLS NO, I have a mic, but I never use, I really cannot be bother, I don't really listen to what other people say, I'm just there to have fun. Well, in online FPS's not ever player a MMO (unless Diablo 2 online counts). Even then, I think I'd rather use the keyboard.

Well... actually I'm sitting on the fence with this one. Everyone here is making really, really good points for both arguments. Pros and cons for both of them.

I had an idea for something there but I'm having a spot of bother wording it, lol.

No. It perhaps could be a nice option to have when setting up games that you've to use a mic, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

I only use a mic when I'm playing with my friends in co-op games.

No way in hell. What, do we want to INCREASE the number of annoying kids and irritating, unexplainable noises? That, and I think some games are better without them. (I'm looking at you, Assassin's Creed)

Hell no, whenever I've listened to random people with mics they never have anything nice to say. There either flaming other people or playing metal music extremely loud which I hate. Sony should implement an option in the system settings to mute all players with mics in public games. It would certainly save me alot of time when pausing, muting players manually and then getting killed. I only use my mic in private games with my friends or in 2 weeks time a bunch of ps3t.org people. http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/arena/119389-call-duty-black-ops-gaming-event-august-20-2011-a.html#post2017486 No 3 on the list.

Nope, no way. There are WAY too many idiots online. Plus sometimes I don't feel like talking to other people. Also some people are deaf or mute.

I have several mics - they're almost 100% only used to talk to friends as we do coop or team games online.

Considering how most people online sounds like dying goats. I would hate if that was an option.

No. Because what if you have a low and grunty voice (like me) and the other people can't understand you? Or the other way around?

After a massive throat infection has left me sounding like I'm chewing gravel (not as awesome as you would think) I'll pass, people tend to think I'm putting it on far too much, and the mocking is only okay when it's someone I know. :p
