The only reason i wouldn't want to buy it off steam is that I don't know if it comes with a CD key. If it does not it would really ruin the game for me (no multi-player) Also, since there are two separate applications for single-player and multi-player. I don't know what the files you download are so if anyone knows reply's would be appreciated =)

I would just wait for Modern Warfare 2.

And if you buy it off steam, you shouldn't need a CD key, since there are no CD's being used.

I got it. There's no key, but you can still play multiplayer. I guess it auto-authenticates or something.
Basically, when you double-click it in Steam it pops up with a choice: "Play Single-player" or "Play Multi-player"
Trust me, if a full version of WaW were being sold there that could not play MP, Treyarch would be getting some very threatening bricks through their windows.

NO! I did and it was a HUGE mistake. You don't need a CD key, but this thing is fucking horrible off there... waste of $45 (bought it on sale)...

Problems I have (I might just be unlucky though):
- Can't find any coop servers...
- Can find regular servers, but always have trouble connecting to them...
- Can't change resolution or game minimizes and never comes back up...
- Updates we get about a week or two after everyone else (meaning people who bought retail PC version)
- No real support from either Steam or Activision on... messaged both about issues and nothing...
- Heard a rumor that mods don't work, I never tried it since I couldn't get multiplayer to work anyway...

As for how it runs, basically you just buy it off there and it gives you one launch icon... half the time it asks you if you want to launch single player or multiplayer when you click it, other times it just starts one and you can switch to the other on the menu screen... If you are going to buy it, take the safe path and buy retail...

I bought it from Steam and it works perfectly.

It DOES give you a CD key, you don't have to bother with it as its linked with your account and stored in your steam folder somewhere, but it is possible to retrieve your own key if you need to though.

However I recommend CoD4 instead :p

These don't steam like problems with steam per se. There aren't many co-op servers generally, connection issues could just be you, and the resolution thing. Well, do you have a fixed resolution TFT monitor?

This is true, though, steam does tend to take a bit.

Well there's no point asking steam, it's not their game. They just provide the cloud in which you play it. It's up to Activision to manage the servers and the patches and such, since it's their game.

- Heard a rumor that mods don't work, I never tried it since I couldn't get multiplayer to work anyway...
Well that's debunked by itself then.

Don't take me as a steam fanboy, I almost always buy retail. I am for the upcoming Christmas games, but don't be too hard on it.

If it has the same content as the booby basic 360 version thenits a maybe. do you like cod4 A LOT. if so dodge it i say. the massive fans of cod4 i know are disgusted by WaW's take on the multiplayer aspect. Treyarch gave it a damn good go, but the setting holds it back. if you haven't got cod4 yet get cod4.

the single player is a great play through, doing veteran now and it is ball bustingly hard. but satisfying.

i say go for it if the price it right. The solid gameplay hold a uninspired game together quite well.

Mods work.

As do custom zombie maps :).

I think I'm off to shoot some Nazi zombies. :)

I really like Steam, but after all the issues I've had with this game, I've really stopped buying stuff off there unless it is a great deal (like STALKER for $5)... I've never had that many issues with any other game before...

I brought the retail copy and I had a few of the problems you described, which is why I'm sceptical. Everyone else thinks it's working fine though, what's your spec?

They aren't that differant in terms of graphics and specs.

If you can run World at War, you should be able to run MW2, granted I don't know what the specs are for it but it can't be that drastic from WaW. Or COD4 for that matter.

Usually you won't need to use it for anything, but if you do need it, there it is.

Do you like Call of Duty 2? Do you like Call of Duty 4?

A lot? Or just passingly?

If you answered "Both" to the first two, and a lot to the second two, then you will enjoy the game.

But be sure to buy it retail, not from Steam.

Shadowrun is a complete change from CoD, it promotes real team work to win. but i hear that its a bad game for pc's.
