Should I continue ME1 or just drop it and go straight into ME2?

I own both copies of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, however I have only been playing Mass Effect and I am in no way half way through. Do you reckon I should slog through ME1 and get it over with and play Mass Effect 2 in which I've heard is one of the best games to come from the console straight away instead? I do understand that you get your saves from the first game into mass effect 2 but I just want your opinion in particular. Thank you for your contribution.

KEEP playing Mass Effect 1.

The end game of ME 1 is excellent. Not least because it will give you an idea of the sheer scale of Sovereign.

More importantly, taking a finished character into ME 2 will give a small but significant boost at the start. It will give you and easier time in the early game, not to say it's easy (ME2 is harder than 1), but you can have better armour and a small level boost.

Mass Effect 1 is easily worth a play through. It's a really fun game, it's got a great story, and, if you carry your save over to ME2, it gets a more "personalised" feeling to it. I'd finish it.

Mass Effect 1 gets better. And ME2 would be nowhere near as good have I not played ME1 before.

And, yes, ME1 bored me, too.

KEEP PLAYING IT!

Honestly, it gets better, a hell of a lot better. I was bored at first but once you get into it you probably wont be able to quit.

You can ignore most of the side quests if you really want to get it over with, but for the love of god play the main quest through to the end. You'll realise it was a good idea what it comes to playing ME2 :)

Feel free to play a playthrough of ME2 without playing ME1. ME1 enhances the experience, but it's already amazing. Just be warned that playing ME2 will make you not want to play the first again. The second removes all the little irks and pains of the first. The inventory system, the Mako, the underpowered abilities. Going back to the first will be hard if you play the second.

Keep playing ME1 for 3 reasons.

ME1 is worth playing to the end.

If you don't have the story from ME1, ME2 won't be half as enjoyable.

You get a lot of benefits for importing an experienced profile from ME1 to ME2.

Finish ME1 first and import your save into ME2.

Trust me. It is much better that way. <3

I'm in a similar position right now. Due to hard drive mixups, I lost all my ME1/2 data, and need to get a playthrough of 2 done again before the final one comes out, but I really don't want to force myself to play the first one again. I loved the extra touches you got for transferring a file, but I'm still on the fence about the whole thing.

Compared to other rpg's mass effect is very fast paced, also mass effect 1 is better than mass effect 2.

Importing your ME1 character into ME2 makes all the difference. I did what you thought of because I got ME2 through various things and didn't have the money for ME1. I played through ME2 and while I enjoyed it, I was dissapointed with how many things I couldn't influence because I hadn't done ME1. Whenever I finally got a copy of the first I slogged through it (GOD I hated that Mako!) and whenever I uploaded it to ME2 and started playing, I absolutely loved how much I had changed the game based on my decisions.

I agree with everything here except that I think you SHOULD finish ME1. Heck, I finished ME1 TWICE just so I could import a level 60 character. Once you play ME2, there is just no desire to go back because every single aspect from ME1 that was bad has either been improved or cut. No more managing your inventory every time you pick up a new pair of pants to make sure all your characters are wearing better pants. No more HORRIBLE Mako sections. Each time you go down to a planet, there is a well designed area and encounter, instead of copy/paste dungeons. Each class has a unique skill that really helps each class feel special (I DARE you not to have fun with the Vanguard's charge skill).

I really recommend you to play through Mass Effect main story before you move on to ME2 cuz it gets better and it will probably screw up the experience of ME2

Why do you find the game a slog? You're not really telling us much.

What class are you playing as? I don't enjoy playing as a soldier because the gunplay is the weakest part of the combat (from a fun standpoint, not effectiveness). Maybe consider starting the game over as a different class that requires more tactical thinking.

If it's because you find the game too easy, then up the difficulty.

If you're grinding through non-main story planets, then give it up. They don't add much to the story (except for the Kahoku ones, they give you some perspective for the second game. And the Rogue VI one because it gives you access to a class specialization).

I do encourage you to keep it up. The game gets much better in final 1/3 of the game. The last battle is outstanding, with excellent set-pieces and some fun fights.

Finish the first one, its not great but its got an awesome ending and you will want to see the effects you had in the second one.

Definately play ME1!

If you just start ME2 without playing the first, it'll more or less make most of the bigger choices for you. After playing ME2 on the PS3 without the benefit of a PS3 version of ME1, I found myself longing for all the little hints and nudges to things that happened in the first. Some small side quests don't even happen in ME2 if you didn't follow them in the first.

Besides, if you play ME2 before finishing ME1, you'll probably never really want to go back and ME1 definately deserves playing all the way through. You'll also have a greater connection to certain characters and hell, you'll just GET a whole load more of the story too. Also, it's great to import your shepard and see him/her integrate so well into a second game. Sounds like a really lame feature but it really helps with continuity.

Play ME1 all the way through, you'll be glad that you did. That is all.

If you're feeling that you have to "slog" through the first game, you should probably just trade them both in as they probably are not your kind of thing.

Better: I dare you not to have fun with the Adept's Pull, Throw, and Singularity spells biotics. You can just toss the enemies around the battlefield, and when they start to fall, pick them back up.

Dear gods finish the first one!! It has my overall favourite finale to a game ever.
Plus (I know that I'm in a minority here) I prefer the first to the second.
