Should I get an Xbox 360?

Hi everyone. I'm new and I've got a quick question. Should I get an xbox 360? I've been a nintendo boy for a long time now, but the Wii isn't doing it for me anymore. Yes, the games are fun, but I need something to sink my teeth into, something new! So why not a different console?

So which one should I get and what games can you recommend? What is the "red ring of death"? And is there backwards capability? Does the console really break down often? Nothing seems to give me a straight answer...

Thanks in advance!
Chris

Google could answer 4 out of the 5 questions you posed.

Oh and this kind of thread has been done to death. Use the search function.
Seconded.

And for God's sake the answer is if you like the games on that system then Yes!

you'd probably be good with a 360.

don't get rid of the Wii though.

it's bound to shoot up in awesomeness once Johnny Lee's VR display gets implemented in some games.

Red Ring of Death: Random (about 40%) chance that your xbox will die.
Backwards compatability on about 45% of the games (it excludes a lot of the good ones)
Yes, it breaks often.
If you're into shooters and sports, think about getting it. Since you're a Nintendo fan, you may like the PS3 better (Little Big Planet ftw).

But it's up to you.

If you have the money, you must get the elite as it has a far lower chance of RROD (which basically means it is broken and you have to get a new one). Most Xbox games have backwards compatibility. Someone who knows a bit more can tell you about the % likeliness of RROD, but I have no idea about it.

bear in mind the xbox has a 3 year RROD warranty and 1 year coverage for anything else.
i have owned mine since summer '07 and haven't had any technical problems :)

The Red Ring of Death was never a problem with me, my Xbox is over 2 years old and has never skipped a beat. Take care of your console and that should help avoid the RRoD, though nothing can stop it if you simply have a truly bad console. Xbox has lots of good games, you should look into what games you like and see what system has more of them.

Also consider how much you like playing games online. If you don't care, then either console would be fine. If you LIKE playing games online, you have to go with the 360. Xbox Live is a great service, it cost $50 a year, which isn't much really, like $4.20 a month. Compared to the PSN on the PS3, which is a service that is still growing. It has a lot of potential that hasn't been put to any use yet and the interface needs to be overhauled.

All in all, if you want to know what console to buy, you don't need us to tell you. Do some research before you start a thread on here next time. Good luck and happy gaming!

360 seems to have all the good games, so yea, its definitely worth the 200$ :).
$200 only if you want the 360, a controller, and NOTHING ELSE.
Compare it with the PS3's $400
To get a 360 with all the stuff a PS3 has standard, you're looking at about $600.

Pick by looking at the games that are exclusive to it, or if it has more games that you want than other systems. And in addition to the console and controler all you need is a HD, not even a huge one - and maybe an extra controler.
My 360 is my main gaming system, I have a wii and the PS3 just doesnt have the games im interested in - or the 360 has them too. HD on it is good too - though the PS 3 probably beats it a bit.
My 360 broke down once, and it was $150 for a replacement (after warranty) and it came pretty quick.
For games - Dead Rising is fun, but a little tedious. Fallout 3, Bioshock, Stanglehold, and I think these are backwards compatible (list on the xbox site) Marvel rise of the imperfects is great multiplayer, and same with Wrath Unleashed.

And this figure comes from...where, exactly?

Id go for the 360 because of three reasons. 1: Nearly every game on it has online play, Updates and DLC come frequently and please don`t listen to "oh XBL is full of drunken fratboys" sure some of them will be but thats life isnt it,

2: There seem to be a lot more exclusives coming to the 360 and some of the originally planned exclusives for the PS3 are also coming to the 360 like FF13 and even the developers of MGS4 hinted it might be coming to the 360.

3: Backwards comptabilty I don`t know whether (sp?) or not you have a original xbox but most of the games are compatible some are even able to download onto it but there are some gems on the original xbox such as Psychonauts,Knights of the Old Republic and Fable.

The only major con of the 360 is its hardware issues but most of the stuff has been fixed and even if it does break you could probaly return it to the store and get a brand new one.

I am lucky enough to collect consoles in general.

The Xbox 360 is a safe buy these days now that most of the manufacturing issues have been stripped out. Certainly see about buying new if you do. I bought one at the release, and so far I have sadly had to replace it seven times (through Microsoft's repair orders), which by extension causes issues with DLC especially those with DRM. (Requiring to be logged into Xbox Live in order to use it.)

That said, the library is massive. The sheer numbers of titles available for the 360 is good enough to have me working on maintaining my 360 even through the difficult periods.

Burn in hell. MGS4 IS NOT GOING TO THE 360. Fanboys shut the hell up before I organize a rumor hinting that GeoW3 is coming to the PS3 because M$ doesn't own the rights to it.

/Fanboy bitchsmacking.

Also buy a ps3. Zero problems and if there is one while playing game you can blame the company that made it on a bad port.(9 times out of 10 its a bad port.)

Also, I am a ps3 fanboy just so you know!(Yes I know theres a special place in hell with triple cunted hookers for me.:D)
