It all depends on if you've played and liked a Halo game before. If you liked it, go for it, because not much has changed really.

IMHO the gameplay is pretty boring but I play Halo for it's story and universe more than it's gameplay. It hasn't really changed much since Halo 1 so if you are bored of the gameplay or wasn't too keen on it to begin with don't bother.

I like it, the game types are pretty fun online. Forge Mode is a lot cleaner and has more options. People still play the game online and you'll pretty much always find a game to join.

Do you like the other Halo games?

Funny thing is, I didn't really like the first two Halo games, but I was totally into Halo 3 and Reach.

Reach in particular has more of a visceral, real kind of feel to it in comparison to the previous games.

Note: I'm speaking solely of the single player experience.

Yeah. It is still pretty fun, even if it isn't as good as the third.

A really good part about it is the replay value. If you get bored of campaign, go to matchmaking. If you get bored of that, go to firefight. If you get bored of that, make a custom game. If you get bored of that, build a course in Forge. If you get bored of that, make a custom game and map together. If you get bored of that, fool around in theater mode. If you get bored of that, go back to campaign. And so on and so on.

A mathematically-minded community member has thankfully charted this stuff, so we can see objectively...

If you liked any of the others ones, then yeah, get it.

And yeah, there's still a pretty decent online fan-base.

Screw Halo, TF2 is free now so go play that instead. But if you are into Halo, it does look like the definitive title. Personally I never liked Halo and the Reach demo didn't change anything.

Tons of people are still on it. Tons. It's freaking Halo: It's one of the best shooters of the last decade, and people will be playing it for years to come.

Now how much you like it could depend. If you're a huge fan of Call of Duty style shooters, there is definitely a difference; you may still like it, but know the two games are not at all the same outside of only the most basic shooter mechanics.

But for my money, the multiplayer is the best of the series (one of, if not the, greatest shooter series yet made), the campaign is bested only by that of the first Halo, and the features like Forge and Theater elongate the game's time value exponentially. Also, the epilogue of the game is one of the best storytelling moments of the year.

Though your question makes me think you haven't played the other games, in which case, do. Start at the first one, for the good of all that is worth playing, and experience an awesome sci-fi war story through some of the best shooter gameplay of the last decade. Then get Reach and enjoy the multiplayer as well.

People aren't really playing online. It's disappointing, cuz it's a fun game and I'd like to keep playing. Though I haven't tried it in a while, so take it with a bit of salt.
