I rented GTA4, and I thought it was great. Then I played GTA3. Yeah, I didn't think much of GTA4 afterwords. But then I hear Saints row 2 is a GTA clone without shame. And most people like it around here, so should I get it?

YES. SIMPLY YES. it's a GTA clone that doesn't bullshit around the realism garden which is, i'm happy to say, a remarkably wonderful change of pace.

it's fun, it's funny, and it works very well as both stress relief and an enjoyable gaming experience

(and don't let any pc idiots fool you. it plays a LOT better on a console)

Saints Row was a gem that not many people knew about at first. I loved it, and Saints Row 2 blew it out of the water. It's got decent music, the mini-games are fun and it has some pretty colorful characters too. I wish I could have an average white guy voice though, that bummed me out. Point is, the game's all about having fun, and killing the individual gangs is pretty satisfying.
Bah, sorry, I'm an obvious fan and I'm ranting to you.

Meh the racking up respect is kinda stupid and tedious. There isn't THAT much to do. Plus the shitty graphics. It's kinda fun I guess....

I'm currently playing it now, and I can honestly say that I have never had this much fun in a sandbox game in my life. Although, I can already see that I won't replay this when I'm done with it, which is a shame, but, is worth the hours you put into it.

Calumon: Unless you put in none at all. Then it's a waste. :p

Buy it. If you regret your decision you ended up buying the PC version and if not yet you still regret it... you're playing it wrong.

"Hey Nico! My cousin! Why are you always playing the Saints Row 2? We should go see beeg American teetees! I forgot, have girlfriend now... we should go bowling instead!"

Shutting off the phone was the greatest moment in that entire game. Then it told me that I can't advance the story because I shut off my phone...

I bought it on Steam the other day, I'm starting to notice it's flaws, (Constant lag, unbearable wasd control scheme).
I picked up a game pad today and it's made it infinitely better, so I suggest picking it up for a console if you do get it at all.

Still, the game itself is incredibly fun and I haven't played to far into it.

If you like GTA then you'll definitely like SR2. It's a game mostly about messing about, I could spend hours just ignoring the missions and just doing random stuff :p

I would say yes but the only thing is, once I beat story mode I had no reason to ever play it again...ever...granted that was the PS3 version which had no trophies. I have my 360 again and may just get it again. Not just for the achievements but also because of the fun of the game itself. I didn't like the boss battles though >.<

I hated it. I got it for the PC, though and it's clunkiness combined with trying to drive nicely with WSAD made it unbearable.

It seems to be pretty popular on the forums, though.
I've always heard it was a nasty PC port.

I want to get it, but I only have a two dollar bill that I'm never gonna spend and some old PS2 games.

SR2 is a horrible PC port yes, but even on lowest settings with the odd lag-spike I thoroughly enjoyed it. (It's quite fun to throw around those pimps with low gravity and super melee damage on... They go for MILES!)
