Should I get Warcraft?

I've got all three, and all the expansion packs and i guarantee you they are worth it. The first 2 havn't got many units compared to any other RTS modern (first one i think has around 8-10 per race, 2nd around 20 per race). And the story is good in all three of them. however if you have come from any recent RTS game it will be hard to go back to the dodgy graphics and units.
If you can get a copy of them, gl and have fun, otherwise keep an eye out for them at random places. Ultimately after the warcraft games hit the dirt (not including but hopefully WoW) the collection will also be worth a ton of money.

I'd recommend you play it, though against the MMO version of it. Stick with the RTS if you want a great story and a lot of hours of fun.

Enjoy yourself!

Dawn of War: Dark Crusade is my favorite RTS by far however Warcraft 3 is a very close second. Warcraft 3 was a very good RTS game, it also had a very good story. The series is filled with some very rich lore and if you are into that type of thing you may find yourself hunting down a copy of the first two games, or at least reading some WoWwikki.

the first 2 Warcraft games im not sure i could recommend anymore, they are to old at this point. I also dont think they will run well on a modern computer, and thats if they will run atall.

Warcraft III however is deff. worth a look!

Also, if your into RTS games, i think you should take a loot at suppreme commander.

As far as I remember, the controls scheme in Warcraft I can be a bit cumbersome. Anyone who has played it more recently may correct me, but I believe you can't use simple mouse clicks for things like move and attack, but you need to first select "attack" or "move" and then click. Not a major issue really, but it can be annoying. Also, I hate roads.

Warcraft 2 was one of the games that defined my childhood, and Warcraft 3 is a great sequel in its own right with some interesting RPG elements and an elaborate story so definitely get those.

Thanks for adding so much to the thread.

I'd say go for it. I've got about 100 hours on there and I still play it with an old mate of mine from time to time.

Warcraft III is one of my favourite RTSs so yeah, I recommend getting it.

Warcraft 3 (and frozen throne) was a great, memorable (and quotable if you're really nerdy) game with a really enjoyable campaign. If you're the RTS type I highly recommend it.

If I were you, I'd just pick up Warcraft 3 and its expansion. The older ones haven't really aged well.
This is exactly what I'd say too. The older first two set the foundation for the genre in much the same way that Doom, Wolfenstein, and Battlezone set the foundations for FPSes. They were amazing games, and without them we'd never have the genre that we have today, but they simply wouldn't be fun to someone who's played more recent games.

Warcraft is great fun, in fact I much prefer Warcraft and Warcraft II to Starcraft. I don't know about Warcraft III, but I look forward to trying it out at some point.

Yes, how dare he make a mistake, we require perfection! We require absolute flawlessness! He shouldn't even have been born if we were going to confuse two games just because they share a name!

/sarcasm

I know you were kidding and that you're new here, but the guy just made an honest mistake and he apologized for it. Making fun of him and telling him to get off the website for it is just silly.

OT: I guess I'm with every other person in the thread in saying that you should buy it.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say no, there are many much better RTS titles to choose from (almost any RTS in a blind grab will be better). The story in Warcraft is pretty decent, but the gameplay is terrible. I would suggest some alternatives, but not sure what you look for in an RTS to give valid choices.

You should be able to get both Starcraft 1 and Warcraft in the Battlechest editions - for very reasonable prices.

I like Warcraft: The Frozen Throne, because I always see it and think: Warcraft: The Chilly Toilet.

Just me! They are worth it, though.

Go for it. Easy to run, dirt cheap, it has aged quite well, an active online commnity, not much more you need.

I payed £10 for WC3 RoC and FT and I still play it today with no regrets.
