Should I give FarCry 2 another chance?

I bought the game awhile back and I did like the presentation. I liked that you sometimes had to fix your car and repair your weapons. I liked the big, open world. I loved the wildlife, the weather, and just how real the world seemed. And I liked the map editor, what little I played of it. It could have been a perfect game, if it weren't for one thing...

The AI. The RESPAWNING AI to be exact. I got sick to death of getting chased by 2 or three cars every time I passed a checkpoint and not being able to hide from enemies and them seeing me from a mile away while I'm hiding in some tall grass that should render me almost invisible. it was enough to make me re-sell the game.

But now I'm having second thoughts. Is there anybody here who had the same problems with the game I had but were able to overcome them? Does it get easier?

PS: I probably only played 5 hours of the game.

Playing it again now won't change the game at all, so, no, you should just get rid of the game. The dev's royally screwed up with this game and somehow didn't pick up all those huge problems during testing. Just wait for FarCry 3, I say.

I got to the second map only to give up, it just keeps repeating the same mission only slightly different each time.

I never played it myself, it looked like an acquired taste though. I have a feeling I might have liked it, but I'd say if you didn't like it the first time, you probably wouldn't like it the next time you tried it. If you still have it, you may as well give it another go, but I wouldn't suggest buying it again if you've already got rid of it.

Don't think I'd mind that that much.

I mean, I did play through Borderlands like 4 times...

It was a brilliant concept. There were elements of a genuinely ground-breaking game in there - the injury system, the fire physics, the scale of the world - it could have been perfect. Unfortunately, they pushed so much effort into that side of the game that they apparently didn't employ any writers. The missions are utterly repetitive, and just travelling around the map got so frustrating that I gave up a few hours after the ferry crossing.

To me, it will always be a "what might have been" game.

It's a very dull, repetitive tech demo. If you like repairing your car then this is the game for you, because you'll be doing it again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Personally I didn't like it.

Same here. Well, the "what might have been" part at least. It's easily one of the most politically profound games I've ever played. I managed to actually enjoy it, since the Jackel is quite an interesting character and the setting and story is, as I said, one of the most politically profound that I've experienced.

And now I feel as though I should link to this article: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/features/9023-Choosing-Between-Bad-and-Worse

Great read.

I've played through borderlands a few times, but that has multiplayer, dunno maybe it's just me but single player campaigns where it repeats are less fun.

The game mechanics are good but the mission and AI let it down in my opinion.

I actually liked Far Cry 2 a lot, even going so far as to go trophy hunting (played it on PS3) after I'd played through the single player once. I'd give it another shot, hell I might even play it again myself, talking about it has made me remember all the fun I had :)

Don't know why that game gets so much crap, its good fun.

Of course not!

The only time you should play far cry 2 is if you can't get to sleep. It's the perfect sleep-aid. You'll be out like a light in 10 minutes or less.

If you have played more than an hour of Far Cry 2 then you have experienced everything the game has to offer.

Kind of a shame. There was potential there.

I played it on and off for a few weeks till i beat it. It can get annoying at times but theres a few cool moments. You should try to atleast beat it once. I played it casually while listening to stuff on the internet.

Did you play on console or PC?

For me the real problem was that it was taking me 30+ minutes just to get between locations on the map because those guys would keep killing me forcing me to completely restart. Allowing me to save the game along that trip would have saved the experience for me. Since I was playing on the console I couldn't do that. If you played on the console and being able to save the game where you want would have saved the experience for you then try the PC version. That's the only advice I can give you.

I bought the game again because like you, I wondered wether or not I should give it another chance. I did, and I am glad because it is a fantastic game. The AI is excellent, the spawning however, is not as you have already noticed.

Trust me, pick this game up again cheap and you'll love it.

There's nothing like picking dudes off with a sniper while they wonder where the hell you are.

I would have agreed with you up until the point when you ran out of missions for one faction and it made you go and complete missions for the other faction until it was ready for you to move on. Oh, and you would think that if a highly talented mercenary had chosen one side, they would give that information to their foot soldiers rather than making every mission "covert" as an excuse not to code friendly AI.

...... I'm sorry, what? Are you SURE you're playing FarCry 2 and not some other game?

I distinctly remember this game having terrible AI endowed with bionic vision, radar, super hearing and heat-seeking bullets.
