Speaking as somebody who was in a similar situation here's my input. Going back to a game such as Fallout 1 can be hard, it's not very intuitive and can be quite clunky to play. This for me made it a struggle to get into.

However, after having given up on it once I decided to try again a week later and enjoyed it a lot more once I got used to how it worked. So much so that I bought Fallout 2 straight afterwards, and occasional game-breaking glitches aside, I'd say it's one of the best games I have ever played.

I'd say give them a shot, they are dirt cheap and if you can look past the awkwardness at times, you will find an incredibly detailed world, full of all the brilliant quirks Fallout has (the humour in both of them is fantastic).

hmmm well if you really want to some people just can't get into them since they are such old games both in their presentation and mechanics but if you can get over that then yes get them and have fun however BY IT OFF "GOOD OLD GAMES" If you buy it from steam you will have major problems and bugs, the GOG versions have no bugs that I've ever come across and the steam version has a shit load more.

if you're a fan of other isometric RPGs, take a look, but if you cut your teeth on Fallout 3, you'll probably find them underwhelming and difficult. They're not actually underwhelming, but it's hard to play them with today's gaming mindset.

I tried playing the first one after loving FO3.

I could never get into it. I don't really know what it was, but I just felt really underwhelmed with it and gave up after a few hours.

Maybe I should give it another try...
Same. Tried several times over the years, in fact. Just cannot get past how slow and tedious everything is early in the game, and I've never managed to get very far without just quitting out of extreme boredom.
