Like the title says should I start playing wow? So my friend started playing wow a year ago and he has been beging me since the day he got it. So could you guys tell me what you think about it, its high and low points.

Thanks in advance.
Play the trial. It'll either reel you in or turn you off.

I, sadly, was reeled in.

I played it for a year or so, and it lost its appeal due to repetition, if you enjoy doing the same thing over again and reskins of monsters you've killed millions of times before, then WOW is the game for you.

Is your friend a reliable guy that will show up to help you? If so, try it, its a lot of fun. My friends talked me into playing, then would never show up to help me out. So after a year of playing by myself, I got bored and quit.

Well I'd advise against it, and no i don't have any gaming experience with WoW, but i have heard social life and your wallet becomes the two victims.

Of course i don't have much of a social life.

WoW is a great game. I invested so much time into that game, and it was incredible. It was worth $15 bucks a month, easily. I just recently got over it. The new Xpac is incredibly good, but you need to have a lot of free time to do it, and trying to keep a GF with that is impossible unless you can Raid and IM effectively at the same time, and that's if she has IM lol. WoW and WAR are the two best MMO games in my opinion. WoW for PVE, WAR for PVP. I loved that game so much, had a lot of friends playing, made more friends online, and was an intense MMO experience. I just don't have the time to play anymore. Play it if you think it is worth it.

You know, you all seem to be pretty biased in answering the question (except you, Stormcaller and Broloth ).
Fix'd
*points at my edit*

Though one could argue that you're being biased in favour of WoW.
However, I must admit I was impressed with the way you /pwned the kid about "$15/month".
Carry on, sir.

I've seen a lot of people here ask that question, and I can guarantee you, you'll either get "yes, it's a great game, and it doesn't do nearly as much damage to your life as people think it does unless you let it" or "DON'T PLAY IT IT'S SPAWN OF SATAN IT RUINS YOUR LIFE!"

I'm the former- get a trial. Try it out. If you like it, don't think that playing it will suck your life dry of any social aspect. It doesn't. My social life is fine, and I have a level 80, and I'm a Guild Master.

It depends, up to level 80 it can be a time sink. WoW is a brilliant game and the new expansion was really well made. Play the trial see what you think and if it's your cup of tea and your friend is willing to help you then go for it.
For me the game has dried up a bit. Just recently started playing Lord of the Rings, which is pretty much just WoW set in Middle Earth =D

Have a go and try it.

Also ignore the people who say "it'll ruin your life" 9 times out of ten they don't know what they're talking about.

it really depends if your into MMORPG's and then again if u like the whole fantasy, magic gnomes and stuff. + its also a good thing if your mate has been playing for a more than a year cause he can help you out with getting to grips with everything.

i personly play wow love the whole realm stuff and that so many ppl play it ive been playing for about 3 months with a mate of mine frm skwl and were at lyk 74 i think. but yeah back to my point wow is much better when playing with sum 1 els tha you know an it really helps.

Wait till you're out of school.

SRS.
This. School kids are GENERALLY not mature enough to handle their time properly.

I did for this game and I love it immensely and can easily balance it with my life now (School literally sucks the life out of you I've come to conclude). I'm sad I didn't start playing when I received it as a present because I wouldn't be treated as a newbie WotLK bandwagoner, but on the other hand I got through my exams without distraction so it worked out well.

look its a simple answer...no, unless you seriously don't have anything better to do with your free time. i was in the same position and i regret it. i wasted time i could have spent doing something good, like sports/socializing.

Hey wait, I'm Irish! Calling someone else Irish insults my honor! *Gloveslap* I challenge you to a duel.

Anywho, back on topic, have you tried the free trial? This will give you a little bit of an intro to the game and answer some questions you may have; do you like the style of it? Do you like the background of the game? Is there a preference for you between Horde and Alliance? Is the game worth spending about $15 a month on? Is there any other MMO that might interest you more?

If you are genuinely interested, then give it a try. If you only want to do it to satisfy your friend, then that is a pretty poor reason. If you are still confused, join Warhammer Online :p

(there, that was pretty impartial for a devout WoW-hating WAR fanatic)

Sorry. I've only played for about 3 days (Free Trial) and it wasn't my cup of tea.
thats because its the fucking free trial for WoW, which has no flavor unless you time it for the christmas season. you have to invest $80 up front for WoW, not get a free trial. but before you get WoW, you should first figure out weather you truely want it, then research the class you want to play (not hunters) on WoWhead.com and WoWwiki.com, then get it, make a charicter, and get to lvl 80 ASAP while hitting VC,WC,SM (all wings), ZF, Mara, and a few other dungeons for gear upgrades

In before the idiot parade, it's not a bad game it is all very server depeendent. It would also help if you could get your friend to help you as the game doesn't really start till the max level which is always going up.

Edit: You don't have to play 6 hours a day, hell I barely play at all now apart from the occasional raid it's just a fun game to have, don't worry about loosing your social life in anyway whatsover.
If you rarely play why do you pay?

I generally scrounge freebie months out of recruit a freind and such, but when I do pay it's with Gamecards.

But to answer your actual question, I pay because like I said it's nice to have. It's ice to be able to jump on and have a chat with people back home (Aus) or just do some questing or a dungeon, it's mostly a "trophy" game and as stupid as that sounds it makes sense enough to me.

Edit: I do play actively during holidays though it's just because we've got exams now I had to drop out of the raiding group.

Funny thing is I'm not Irish, I'm just living here. I'm actually Australian.
