Like the title says should I start playing wow? So my friend started playing wow a year ago and he has been beging me since the day he got it. So could you guys tell me what you think about it, its high and low points.

Thanks in advance.
In my experience (and this is MY experience, other people will obviously have a different one but this is mine, so if this applies to you, I hope it helps.) I think that World of Warcraft is an interesting one because I started playing this in high school and I think I would have had a much better time in school if I had not started playing it. Being the typical teenager I was, I found it impossible to manage my time or be motivated to do much. When it came 'round to coursework time I'd turn on my computer with good intentions but end up logging into this for a quick conversation with someone and realise what I'd whittled away 3 hours of my time in a silly instance or something. I can tell you that if I traded all my played time on this for school work or practise on my instruments - I would have done a lot better in life earlier on.

Life story aside - let me give you a run down of what I think:
When I played it, I never really enjoyed it, it just seemed to kill time from point A to point B and that is what it does. Tremendously well. Time is practically slaughtered whilst playing this game.
In the actual game, it is apparently 'always evolving' but what that basically means is they bring out another instance once along with a batch of new updates that will usually change the way you play your characters. The PVE aspects of the game - as far as I can tell - don't seem to be all that fantastic. It seems that after levelling to the highest level in instances etc, they'd vary it up a bit but it just seems that experience points are traded for gear.
PVP seems to have declined, for the moment any way - meaning that at the moment, all the classes seem incredibly unbalanced. That seems to have lost it's charm too, for me. The objective of World of Warcraft now seems to be based around the gathering of the pretty purple writing gear, opposed to the actual FUN in the game.

Anyway, that's my experience of the game. Of course yours will be different, as will many other peoples so there's no need for anyone to say such things as: "ZOMG U R OBV A NUB DAT CANNAE PVP DEN LOLOL" and sorry if there is anything wrong with my grammar etc. I am incredibly tired and thought I'd write a nice little article before sleep :)

Have a go and try it.

Also ignore the people who say "it'll ruin your life" 9 times out of ten they don't know what they're talking about.
The problems only arise if you become addicted, like a friend of mine once was. But if you have a strong mental will play it, maybe first get a friend to install it on your computer and try a private server first to see if you enjoy it.

Sorry. I've only played for about 3 days (Free Trial) and it wasn't my cup of tea.
thats because its the fucking free trial for WoW, which has no flavor unless you time it for the christmas season. you have to invest $80 up front for WoW, not get a free trial. but before you get WoW, you should first figure out weather you truely want it, then research the class you want to play (not hunters) on WoWhead.com and WoWwiki.com, then get it, make a charicter, and get to lvl 80 ASAP while hitting VC,WC,SM (all wings), ZF, Mara, and a few other dungeons for gear upgrades
Can you explain how the free trial differs from the full game? I did try the trial once out of interest and it didn't hook me...

Echoing much of the rest of this topic. Don't start playing it if you have important exams coming up or anything like that - when you do try it it'll either hook you or not and if it does you may end up regretting it!
the trial for WoW has too many limits to be fun, and the game doesnt really begin to be fun as a result of this.

WoW didnt ruin my life, i actually lost weight because i was playing WoW (im not skinny either), and private servers for WoW have sucked since patch 2.3 came out.

It may not be a perfect representation of the game, but its a good way to see if you'll like it. And I quite enjoyed burning fusion thankyou very much.

If you enjoy a simple MMORPG then buy the game. The basic combat is basically just click on whatever you want to kill and the advance part is clicking buttons that detirmine how you want to kill it Becuase wacking it with a sword for a while is so overdone. I enjoy the game and so do 4 millon others. I suggest the three day trial. You get to go everywhere and choose any race and class (except death knight since you need at least one lv 55). You would only be limited socially (In blizzs effort to try and cut down on spamming)

Depends, do you have 15 dollars to throw away every month? Are you willing to play at least 6 hours a day? And finally do you care about your social life? If the answers to these are yes, yes, and no then go for it. Its a great game, dont get me wrong, you just pay a price for it in more ways than one.
That is all that you need to ask youself.

depends. if you like grind and if you hate your own money then yes. if you'd rather keep your money then just buy an online shooter and pretend your on WoW if it matters that much.

2 things. First off you arn't throwing your money away. You are paying for a service. Think about how many television channels you get vs how much tv you actually watch in any given week. You pay for a lot of shows that you will probably never see.

Second, and in a weird sort of way, WoW is like TV. Now that its into its 2nd expantion there is a lot of the content in game that you will never play. Think about all the Pre Burning Crusades dungeons that no one does any more. MC, LBRS, URBS, Ulda, AQ20/40, BRD, ZF, Mara, ST, DM, scholo, strath, ZG, Ony. Outside of achievement hunters and people that get bored and try to solo it, they are pretty much dead zones.

Still, as games go its not bad. But comming into the game so late its like showing up to a party alone after everyone has already paired off and hooked up.

Luckily, the food bar doesn't require company, and you're likely to find many of the couples to be polyamorous!

Of course you're throwing money away. Blizzard charges you for the right to play a game that you already bought (there should be a law against that, it's ridiculous), even though other online games give you that option for free. If you have a choice between, say, WoW and TF2, then playing WoW costs you an extra $20 every month. It is true that WoW has a different sort of online play, in that there are ridiculous numbers of people on each server compared to what you get in TF2, but all that means is that there are a few thousand characters walking around that you will never care about or talk to, rather than 30-ish at the most. Imagine if Blizzard released DLC for Starcraft that cost you $20 a month and made a horde of ghost Zerglings that could not affect the game in any way run around your screen. Even the most passionate of Blizzard fans would think that they'd gone nuts. But when you throw it into an RPG, everyone jumps to your defence every time someone has the nerve to question the judgement of the mighty Blizzard, because how could they ever do wrong?

... That went off on a bit of a tangent. Most of that wasn't aimed at you, by the way, it was just me being disgusted by humanity in general.

Anyway, don't do it. Even if you don't become addicted, you're paying a sizable amount of money for no real reason at all, making yourself sound bad if anyone ever finds out (because most people who know what WoW is automatically associate it with addiction) and may potentially cause other friends to join, which could end up getting them addicted and having them waste their lives playing that soul-destroying carrot-waving grindfest. That's sorta what happened to some of my friends; some people started playing, and because it has that addicting quality they would constantly talk about it at school, then other people started to play because the talk interested them or they just wanted to know what they were on about, then they get addicted, then you find that you're the only person there who doesn't like the game, because other people are 'only playing until I reach level 80' or 'really not that addicted' or whatever.

Just play a real game, one that motivates you to play it with good gameplay rather than an endless stream of pointless rewards that get replaced next level anyway.

No. There are much better things you could be doing with your time like playing better games, learning an instrument or just putting your money in a pile and burning it.

WoW is the best rpg ever made so i recommend it only if the monthly fees are not a big pain
Amazing...someone who doesnt even know what an RPG is.

WoW is NOT an rpg, it would need actual proper RPG aspects first.

As I have personally explained before the ONLY RPG element in wow is the PLAYER MADE role playing.

The rest is just multiplayer pve dungeons with no plot other than "Kill everyone here" and pvp content.

If youre determined to play an MMOG that does exactly the same as wow, play Voyage Century Online. It does everything wow can (aside from fly on wow and sailing on VCO). For FREE, with an OPTIONAL item mall for additional, non vital to game play items. More importantly VCO does it better and does it with better graphics too.

Tbh for the amount Blizzard are raking in with WoW they could at least use a decent engine.

I would recommend wow only if you're prepared to schedule time slots for raiding at higher levels. Otherwise, skip it as the high end raids are the real meat and fun of the game.

If you are going to start playing, you should look into recruit a friend. Have your friend recruit you and make another character and level with you. You'll both get triple exp from quests and monster kills as long as you're both near each other in game. This will make levels 1-60 go by in a flash, since every zone will give you 10 levels or so instead of 2 or 3. With the triple exp, you can easily get to level 80 in about a month of playing 5 hours a week or so. Also, your friend will get a free mount and some free game time if you do decide to keep playing.

Just check it out. You might be surprised at how much fun it can be.

Do you have a solid income? Are you willing to give up your social life for a game?

If so, then yes.

From the perspective of somebody who has two level 80's and numerous other high level characters. No. It takes you a while to realise why you started playing the fucking game to begin with, you remain bored up until 80 where you're promised exciting content and new raids just to sit in Dalaran doing nothing all day; even when you raid it's boring, and heroics are useless in WotLK.

Nope. That's pretty much it.

IMHO it should be called World of Grind.
