Should The Escapist approach SF Debris?

For those of you who don't know who he is, SF Debris is a man who is known in some niche circles for making long, detailed analytical reviews of Star Trek episodes. He does one each week as well as two videos of other topics people who support him have elected to have him cover (he usually does one animated and non-animated series episode each week on top of the Star Trek one, but he also does movies).

The guy basically does consistent, quality reviews (and when I say consistent, I mean in the past 10 years the only times he ever was late on an upload outside of his infrequent vacations was when his wife had a mental breakdown and when a tornado went through his front yard) which would fit in perfectly on this site, as it would provide 3 quality videos each week for us to enjoy (including one on Saturday, the day without content that isn't Sunday).

Now you're probably wondering why I'm basically giving a not-too-well made ad for the guy to come here, well the answer to that is, due to YouTube's abysmal copyright enforcement, he keeps his work on Blip.TV, which unfortunately for man of us is shutting down next month. Due to this he will be needing to use a different streaming service to host his content, so having him move here seems a logical move in my incredibly biased opinion since it would allow him to get more people aware of the existence of his content who would likely be interested in it, while also allowing the site to get traffic from people who are already fans of his but not currently using the site.

So what do you all think, would it be a good idea for the Escapist to send the man an offer?

The reality is that the escapist would have the same copyright issues. If you notice all the Escapist movie reviews only have footage released by the company for publicity purposes. Anything that would involve the Escapist paying a 3rd party that uses copyrighted material without permission would be difficult

So... what exactly is it that Blip.TV does that allows users to use content as they currently do without fear?

Well he's with Channel Awesome now so that might make things a bit more difficult. That said he is my favorite online reviewer so anything to get him more exposure is cool with me.

He's with Channel Awesome? This is the first I'm hearing about it, only connection I knew of was that he had some sort of professional relationship with Linkara (and I was under the impression Linkara may or may not have left Channel Awesome, haven't been there in a long time).

Plus, Channel Awesome is going to go through the same problem itself since most of their content uses Blip for hosting.

Yeah he was picked up during the recent talent addition along with Chris Stuckmann, Shark Movies and a few others. He still has his own website and Patreon but his videos are posted on Channel Awesome as well.

It wasn't Linkara that left Channel Awesome but Opscurus Lupa, Phelous, Lindsay Ellis, Oan Citizen and a few others did. Some out of protest of what they felt was mistreatment of producers not of the Big 3 (NC, Cinema Snob and Linkara) and others just because they felt their styles didn't fit the website and such.

No it doesn't but he already has a video up talking about exploring new hosting options.

Being affiliated with Channel Awesome just means highly unlikely those new hosting options includes the Escapist.

You mean the business that has just closed down due to a too high cost base. Wild stab in the dark here but you do realise paying Paramount to use the excerpts from episode adds to the cost of running a business.

I dunno, like other people have said, he's currently partnered with Channel Awesome (and despite what some people may say about the, I still enjoy many of the remaining producer's work). Also, I don't know if he would work on this site... even if it would be great to have one of my favorite internet reviewers here. (The Escapist could always use some new blood...)

The escapists has videos and content that cater to people of different tastes and preferences.
Within this content, they do different things, in different ways. Both to "Keep it fresh" and to expand thier normal viewer base for maximum page clicks/ad views

Such as

Zero Punctuation does different games (Oooh I cant understand him, but he is reviewing Dark Souls! Gotta watch it!)
Moviebob...did different movies (Ugh he drones on and on, but I hear he tore Amazing Spiderman 2 apart! Gotta watch it!)
Loadingreadyrun did different games (Ew, ill just play the games..oh they made fun of Dark souls lol, imma watch it!)
Criticalmiss and that new comic have the same characters, but in different situations. (Eh, I dont like webcomics, but I see they are making fun of Halo.)
Jimquisition covered different, important topics (Argh I hate his pretentous ass, but Fuck Konami!)
Game theory does different game....theories (I dont like youtube, but I DO wanna find out what happened at five nights freddies, imma check it out)

Note how every one, is able to draw in people outside their natural viewerbase, for more money. And escapistmagazine has to worry about money.

Now
Guy makes Star Trek videos.

Not everybody watches Star Trek.
