I occasionally still watch it, not because it's one of those shows (You know, the kind which you think "Maybe I'll watch it because I'm so bored" and you end up channel surfing while doing it) and I'm a big fan of the show. Frankly I don't think it's become worse I just see it as evolved. Since it's days as shorts on the Tracy Ullman show to the mega culture it is now the show has constantly been changing, be it in the themes, the humour, the animation. Just compare Homers night out (My least favourite episode)to the mansion family (My favourite episode) and you see a dramatic change in theme, seriousness, animation and humour. With something that's been around as long as The Simpsons it's natural that the producers will want to take it in a different direction.

Final straw was a random ep where they spoofed entourage...

It does not matter what I think about the show. I watch it in occasion, btw.
As long as it keeps making Fox money, the Simpsons should stay on the air. As long as they can keep getting new writers to come up with different ways to tell the same stories, then let it stay on the air. As long as the Actors still want to keep doing the show, let them.

The show is not going to go away people. It already made Fox a few billion dollars and as long as it can still make a few billion more, it will still be on the air.

Yes. Dear god, put it out of it's misery.

It stopped being entertaining after the eigth season. The number of memorable episodes drops every season.

It's a well-written show, but I don't find it funny. I can't think of any situation where I laughed out loud because something somebody said or did was hilarious.

I love Futurama, though.

I suppose one of the main problems with the Simpsons is so many cartoons of that style have grown and evolved from it that it just doesn't have that originality anymore.

South Park has shock value, Family Guy has randomness down, Futurama is clever comedy. What does the Simpsons have that really sets it appart anymore?

That and they just seem to have run out of decent ideas. I've seen many new episodes which just seem to be rehashes of old ones.
Err no. The Simpsons had shock value, randomness and clever comedy before the others even existed and it did it better as well, not South Park though, that show is genius.

However I agree it's ran out of great ideas or the guy who knew how to write great episodes has left, I say it should of ended 3 years ago.

I pick option 2. I don't find the first few seasons all that funny, around 7-15 are the best for me, now it's all downhill because the fear Family Guy's recent success (Which I believe to be declining once more do to WAY to many "time fillers")

Disagree. I just recently watched an episode of the simpsons from this season and loved the bit about how bart said women ruin everything.

To which homer replied- oh son, you say that now- but when you're older, you'll just think it. I can totally related to this.

My favourite season was 13 as it had the most intrinsic writing in my opinion, but after that it went downhill. The new animation didn't help much either.

Homer relises he can sing opera on his back but when he gets an obsessed fan. This was the ep that made me forsake the new ones. I just couldn't take it anymore. The scene that, for the first time ever, made me get up and turn the tv off was when homer, walking the cat the 'camera' does a close-up of his eyes and when we go back to full view snowball is replaced by the crazy fan in a latex cat suite. As the comic book guy once said:

Worst eppisode ever!

Yes. I've alawys thought Futurama was funnier anyway and if cancelling the simpsons puts Groening back to working on it then give me the gun and I'll put the last bullet between that show's eyes myself.

Edit: Is there some way I could make the last half of that post less redundant?

No! It's probably the show I watch most...

Heck, it's probably the ONLY show I watch anymore.

OT: The Simpsons has had some HORRIBLE episodes coming out at the moment, but most of them are pretty good.
