No. Us Canadians have to pay fuckloads of money for the governor general and lieutenant governors, who are basically representatives of a foreign queen, who herself is just a useless figurehead.

The MPs do as much harm as good and they have legalised their own fraudulent behaviour, allowing them to claim on second houses etc.Yosharian said:

They refused to have a referendum on Europe effectively damaging the democratic system to the point were you must wonder if it can still be classed as democratic.
They shoved money into the hands of bank CEO's when they should just have let banks like northern rock collapse (but rescue the savings of lenders).
And frankly they haven't shown balls. The MPs lack cojones.

I love having a monarchy for several reasons.
1. They and their estates bring in money to the UK
2. They are a major aspect of British and commonwealth culture
3. Prince Philip is hilarious
4. The french don't have a royal family, if they did the UK would be the most republican nation on earth, and wouldn't be called the UK
5. The armed forces and other services swear allegiance to the queen, not to a constantly changing government
6. Removing them would rip out a lot of stuff that makes us British
7. The royal family do a lot of ambassador style work for they UK, helping establish trade and good relations between nations
There are more but i'd run out of space and start to bore people, but i do feel they if you don't like or respect or just appreciate the monarchy, then you can't really call yourself British.

I have no problem with the UK keeping their royal family, what annoys me is that the Queen is my countries head of state, not a popularly elected Australian.

Basically, they act as economy stimulants, therefore increasing the flow of money around the system, so they're paid for being figureheads. Quite a neat system overall. America does the same with Disneyland.
I see no reason why they shouldn't exist aslong as they stay quiet and out of the media but if you want my opinion then you can look into that empty corner over there to see the amount of fucks I give about them.

Just saw the reply video posted something like five times above my own post, and, while I'm sure that it has its own flaws and mistakes, it is convincing. Not totally sure where I stand now; I've supported both views in the past, and now I'm just about to give up on the entire issue.
