Should we even consider the Xbox One a games console?

You don't need several hundred dollars worth of hardware to run Netflix and Kinect motion controls. Gaming is the main reason the device exists. If it was a multimedia device that can do games, Microsoft would have made a Kinect with wifi and a cable input

I'd also say I'm kinda over the Xbone melodrama already. Wired had a Q&A with a Microsoft guy and the console doesn't seem that bad anymore

I do not call my Samsung Galaxy S3 a phone.

I call it an S3.

But if I wanted to be accurate I'd call it my "Kairosoft Arcade & Reddit Mobile Device."

Because lord knows I never ever >ever< use it to make phone calls.

Never ever.
I hate it when I read phone reviews and they talk about call quality. I don't give a fuck about the talking part, I wanna know how fast my shit can run on it!

I hope that was sarcasm, like I really really hope that was sarcasm.

On Topic:No it's a computer, just like every other system only more so since it runs a x86. It's a computer that plays games, just like every other console to ever come out.
The part about phones or the Wired article I read? Either way, I don't like Microsoft in the first place so don't care about the Xbox One
Nah the cell phone part, it just sounded really silly to me XD.
Lol. I thought shit got real for a second. But what can say? I don't like talking aloud when there's no one physically around me ;)

>Exactly<

That's exactly how I feel anytime I read about phones.

Well, it does play games on it, but then again the iPhone and iPad play games on them too and they aren't considered game consoles, and I still maintain that the Xbone is primarily designed to compete with the Apple TV rather than anything Sony or Nintendo are doing.

Even Microsoft doesn't want us to call it a game console. They want us to call it the "Xbox All-In-One Entertainment System."

Well, there are going to be games that can only be played on the Xbone. As much as they try to push the stupid 'media hub' aspect and refuse to acknowledge the interconnectivity of devices without a need for a hub, it is still obviously a console.

Everyone seems to forget that in 2005, this is EXACTLY how they marketed the Xbox 360 leading up to its release. "Its an all-in-one device that replaces everything in your living room!"

It will still play every multiplatform game that comes out in the next 8 years... and will do it well enough that the winner of PS4 vs Xbox One will be based entirely on your preference of games ... just like the consoles this generation.

I don't care what it is. From what I can gathered it seems to be more of a device that can and will spy on you with it's required kinect camera. Call me paranoid, a conspiracy theorist, whatever. I will not have that device in my house.

Seriously. I haven't even thought about it in like a conspiracy way, but more just in the sense of embarrassment. Are people just going to be able to call me without my consent and activate my camera when the console is on? I don't know about all of you but when I'm lying on my couch playing video games there is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that I will be dressed at the time. What if I activate my camera by accident when I only meant to activate the microphone or because it misunderstood my voice or something?

If I did ultimately get the Xbone at some point in the future I can assure you I would be covering that lens up straight away.

Is the Xbox 360 a games console? Is the PS3 a games console? Can both of those devices do significantly more than game? Is this even a question?

This bandwagon of Xbone hate is tiring me very quickly. Why not get back to hating EA?

We can at least see they are bad. Right now the Xbone is being condemned too quickly. Wait until you see the games. THEN condemn it and call it a pile of crap. This is all just hearsay and other such shit.

The 'conspiracy theory' isn't the issue for me. The having to stand up and/or do stupid shit with my hands to play video games is what eats at me.

Its bad marketing on MS' part right now. And there won't be a Nintendo to hold "worst conference" at E3 this year so the eyes are on them. Sony's set up a pretty nice preview of the PS4 already and have announced some exclusive that people are generally intrigued in.

That and the features of the PS4 seem to be good for GAMING so far. (Being able to play games as they download and such)
One of the main things MS has to do is have some damn good exclusives. Seriously, can someone name ten 360 exclusives that DIDN'T jump to PC or the PS3? Most of the "exclusive" franchises on the 360 either ended or became multiplatform to make more money.

MS has very little exclusive franchises left and the one that are left have been changed to such a point that fans of them are starting to wane.

MS also needs to really justify Xbox Live Gold accounts. Seriously, why do they still charge people for things that the competition does for free?

It's not a games console, it's a water cooler. Weren't you paying attention?

OT: Although it's a games console in technical terms, in practice, it's more a Smart TV that requires another TV to plug it into, so I consider it more a Media Player, like the Apple TV

Of course it is a games console. Just because it can also do a load of other stuff (just as the PS4, PS3 and indeed Xbox 360 all do).

On press conference that emphasized its other features does not prevent it from being one, especially when E3 is so close.

Now we can have an E3 that focuses on the games for it.

Standard disclaimer for PS4/Xbox One threads: Both reveals failed to impress masssively. Both showed some promise.

Extra disclaimer, if I want ultimate gaming power then I'll use my PC, so given the two are fairly close in specs, other functionality may well be a better bet to sway me on which to get 1st, as the games I tend to get on console outside the odd exsclusive tend not to be system punishers anyway.
if more people were like you mate we wouldn't have these pointless fucking threads bashing a product after a ARCHITECTURAL
reveal. the games ARE COMING they're saving them for e3 which people forgot is a FUCKING VIDEO GAME FOCUSED EVENT, I'll bet my thumbs if ms revealed all their games they'd be saying "oh why didn't they wait to e3? they showed their hand too early?!" it's getting annoying frankly.

On a cheerful note i can't wait till e3!

selective memory at it's finest am i right? at least here the conversation is civil here, over on ign and gamespot it's like MS kills peoples moms or something, I can't understand the logic in hating a piece of hardware you know nothing about.

I bought my iPod Touch as a gaming device, and that's really all I use it for. I don't even have any music on it. The only non-game app I have on this thing is Netflix.

And y'know what, I consider my iPod more of a gaming device than some of the actual gaming devices I have. I own a device that releases a lot of great, fun, cheap, unique games every single week, and many games go on sale for free all the time. Just check the free page every now and then and you can get lots of free gaming entertainment.

...None of that is super relevant to this conversation, I just like pointing out because a lot of gamers I see still seem to have that foolish mentality that iOS games "aren't real games" (not that I am directly accusing anyone here of saying that)

Anyway, right now I have to agree simply based on the fact that...well...they didn't announce any games. Can't really call it a game system without games, right?

I'm sure the Xbone will have lots of fun expensive games that will not have any effect on my decision to not by the console, but I'm sure it will turn lots of other people around.

It seems like every console has this weird rocky period when it's announced or launched or whatever where fans are going "God, there are no games for this thing!!!" the only difference with the Xbone here is when fans say that...well...it's kinda literally.

To be fair, a computer is a device with a great many features, one of which is gaming. However, until now, nobody has tried to go quite so far as to make a console do stuff like that, especially when it hardly needs to. Chances are, the PS4 probably STILL won't push things that far...because it wouldn't work. You give it SOME features, not all of them. That's more reasonable. X-bone's still a console, but it's kind of a stupid juggling act of one with too many pins, and we laugh when one of the pins bonks it on the head. It's the goofy clown of consoles.
