I currently have £400 worth of upgrades sitting in my Amazon shopping basket (including an i7 2600k and P8P67 mb), but for now, this is it...

OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1055T, overclocked to 3.6Ghz. Cooled by a Noctua NH-U12P

GPU Zotac GTX 470 1280mb

RAM 8Gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600

HDDs 1.5tb Samsung (primary), 300Gb VelociRaptor (purely for FSX)

PSU Corsair TX750W

Fans 6x Noctua NF-P12 120mm's (two on the CPU heatsink), 1x Xigmatec 120mm cooling the HDDs.

Case Coolermaster Stacker 830, nVidia edition.

It runs anything on max settings and is about a tenth the volume of an XBox 360, so I'm happy!

Windows XP
Q6600 Quad Core processor
2Gs of Ram
Nvidia 8800GT
1TB of HDD space

Built it myself, and a couple years ago I could run any game (barring Crysis of course) at max settings without a problem. Now my poor dear is barely keeping up with the latest games. I'm afraid its almost time for it to join my other computers in that big computer factory in the sky...

CPU
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition

VIDEO
Zotac GeForce GTX580 1536MB AMP!
Quite the setup right there. Be ready for the jet engine they send as the cooling fan for your CPU. It keeps it pretty cool but the thing is loud.
Really? I heard the direct opposite, but that was coming from AMD themselves, so I guess thats something they have to say
I have the 1090T in mine so from what I know they should be the same stock coolers. It's fine idle but under load it gets a little loud spinning at 5200 RPM. now don't get me wrong it is a fantastic stock cooler keeping my cpu idle at 29c and about 45c under load.
Alright. I don't think it'll bother me, i'm used to have a PC that's noisy, but I appreciate the heads up :)
I agree that it's an amazing stock cooler, but shit, the noise is stupid! You thought a 360 in full swing was loud, it's nothing compared to this!

There's a really simple solution though, just swap the stock cooler for an aftermarket unit with larger and quieter fans. Something from Zalman or Noctua will be perfect. You can run those fans at 100% constantly and never be bothered by them.

Yea I have my eye on the Noctua C12P or the D14. I'm waiting either for a small sale or my hours at work to start picking up. Nothing like newegg price alerts.

How I long to be a PC gamer...
[sub]money money money[/sub]

Should I even share the abomination that is this old piece of metal?

...

Oh, why the fuck not.
The only things I could say I'm proud of are my HD monitor and my ever faithful drawing tablet... *sniff*

How much did it cost you for all those parts? And how much time to put it together?

3GB RAM (Again, don't judge, I run Crysis on high).
512MB Nvidia GeForce graphics card, exact model... I'm too tired to find that too ^^
149GB Master Hard-Drive and 1TB slave Hard-drive.
Samsung SyncMaster P2350 screen.

Strange that this thread comes up just after I start to think about trying to save up for my own gaming computer...

Does anyone know a good, cheap setup which is able to run most games? (I plan to get Skyrim for the PC as well as the Xbox 360).

I have a laptop now but it runs Minecraft at 15FPS, so I definitely need a computer for gaming.

Well that shouldn't be too hard. I can help you get set up if you would like. Just send me a private message and let me know budget and anything else you want it to handle.

ATI MSI-5570 1GB DDR3 (Entry level card, but not bad actually. Changed to this from the pathetic nVidia 8300... Bleh.)
2GB DDR2 ram
2TB WD HDD

A pretty meh setup I know, But in the process of building a new one

For that one I have so far:
