I always say "ok, my desktop is clean, lets keep it that way" whenever i get a new install of windows.

NOW LOOK AT IT! There's even just an empty folder called 'New Folder' just chillin there.

I use Windows 7.

But I have desktop customization tool. Its Rainmeter [http://rainmeter.net/cms/]. The animated background is Dreamscene [http://www.dreamscene.org/]. With their powers combined, you get awesomeness.

I loooove it.

Spoiler: It was this image until I came to this thread and saw Elmoth's sweet Fallout 2 wallpaper.

I have everything off my desktop, even the taskbar is hidden. I have no need for icons to clutter my pretty desktop, I can easily navigate the Start menu for my programs.

I got mine up and running in an hour or two. It really depends on how indepth you wanna go. I mean one guy did this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXE5lbECZDE].

Compare it to mine, and I use bare bones.

The program comes loaded with a handful of default skins, but you can search for more (which is what I did). From there, the creator of the skin usually includes some text on how to personalize the stuff.

tl;dr You should be fine!
