Well done Mr Fan. A very well put together fan trailer remix. I know I said I was done with Godzilla 2014, but I felt that this should be shared because of how well it was put together. Since I don't want this to be another G 2014 thread we are talking anything and everything fan made. Since I started with Godzilla I may as well finish with it.

Ok, basically all forms of fan work are horrible in my opinion, except art (trailers are ok too I guess. Don't see many of them).
Not all, also depends on who is doing it. If it is done by a twit, who knows nothing about the medium they are working with, then of course it is going to be horrific.
Not nice to call crap just because you have not found decent examples.

I don't know if they qualify as 'awesome', but I've been working on some Terraria fanart [http://imgur.com/a/lWWWZ]

I guess. I did actually have a nicer way of putting it but as you might have read, that nicer way was deleted when the page auto refreshed for some reason. I was unwilling to rewrite it and slightly pissed off, so I got carried away and made an unfair generalisation.

But seriously, I've seen some pretty bad fan made material... It's like the creators enthusiasm has clouded their mind and made articulate thought impossible.

Hey, that's pretty cool! You should make a DeviantArt account so I can watch you.
Haven't played much Terraria... But this makes me want to.

So, if I were to butcher and eat this fellow [http://garrettartlair.blogspot.com.au/], would I acquire his art skills?

It might just be worth a shot, society's laws and common decency be damned!

Here are some highlights for those too lazy or cautious to click the link:

You may want to edit that post. put url and /url in [] around each link like you would for a spoiler tag, it will let people click on the links directly. Even better you can use img and /img with the image link to post the image directly (although spoiler tags to save space are recommended).

OT: I absolutely adore this picture and will post it whenever I get the chance to.

Aigis from Persona 3. It's just so striking and I'm a huge Aigis fanboy so I love it ^_^

Thanks. Sorry I didn't realise I had to do that. Can't seem to get images by themselves on my ipad so URL is the best I can do.

Does a full conversion mod count as fan work?

There are a lot of amazing mods out there so I'll just pick the one I played recently.

Black Mesa (HL2 total conversion recreating HL1).
Oh my... I was following this mod for years and never expected it to be THIS good. It is so true to the original, but at the same time so aware of the series continuity and it acknowledges it just enough without stepping into crappy fan fiction (Remarks by the first guard about Barney, meeting a younger Eli and Kleiner briefly etc.).

It blends the classic games feel and look with a more modern level design. They weren't afraid to take out or alter parts that made the original weaker. Weapons were re-balanced to give them more specific roles, rather then a clear cut tier system which makes certain weapons obsolete.

They added flavor dialogue to the various NPCs you meet that give the HL1 story a lot more personality. I was surprised to see certain NPCs remark about things one would not expect or on the feats you accomplished. The battle chatter is specific to the moment which is great, giving you clues about enemy compositions.

The level redesigns were phenomenal. The sense of familiarity they achieved with such massive changes is also astounding. It felt both nostalgic and new at the same time, like I was exploring the game for the first time again and yet completely familiar with each new environment.

This is my favorite mod of all time, just for how insanely true to the original it was and yet still feeling totally new.

There was some serious talent behind this mod, coupled with strong passion and love for the title it aims to recreate.

If anything it surpasses HL1. Not just be the added technology, but simply having the awareness for adding what could be added to make it better but not make it different.

I eagerly await the Xen levels. If they are as competent with it as they were with Black Mesa as is, I wouldn't be surprised if they make those levels a joy, rather then the chore the original made them out to be.

As a little extra, there was a short Fan Film for HL2 that I saw a while back. Good acting, good editing and good special effects. I think it was called city 17. There was meant to be more but I lost track of the project. Might try to look it up again.

This is pretty much the only one I could find, or think of. A trailer made from the Haruhi movie but with the Inception theme over it, love this one.
