K, I love this guy, his name is Gavin Harrison and he's an English drummer that currently is a member of the progrock band Porcupine Tree. The video I'm about to post is so sick, that I had to share it with you. It all flows together really well, and his drumming is insane!

I will give the entire Escapist a cookie if you don't start a war. It's just like a user comment on the video says: Small minds compare people, big minds compare ideas.

Here's the video:
PS. He has a lot of other great stuff, with and without Porcupine Tree. If you didn't like this one, then you might like other works.

Here are another two videos for those of you that don't appreciate jazz, but more rock.
Make sure to turn your volume up on the last one.

He's pretty damn good. Jazz drumming is notoriously hard to keep a rhythm for. I quite like it.

God I fucking love Jazz. I'd have babies with it if Ellen Page hadn't called shotgun already (she just doesn't know it yet).

He's excellent.

I'd love to see this guy and Neil Peart go head to head.

Probably the planet would explode.

And it would be awesome.

Yeah, I saw Rush live in San Fransisco while on vacation this summer, his 10-15 minute long drum solo was just great!

I do like me some Porcupine Tree, but I'd never heard Gavin Harrison playing any solo stuff. Cheers for that!

OH MY FUCKING GOD. I saw this thread and I was like "alright, time to educate people in the awesomness that is Gav-..."

I adore Porcupine Tree, and the main reason I got into them was because of the drumming. High five to you, sir.

Though he's not quite my favourite, that has to go to Brann Dailor. That man is inhuman.

Drumming is ridiculously difficult to me, and I have nothing but respect for the people that can do it. People that drum this well proceed to blow me away.

Drumming takes a multitasking ability that's pretty hard to master.

I agree, drumming is very hard, and i envy those who are good at it. Welcome to The Escapist and congratulations on your first post above.

"Oh take me you stallion! Take me now!!!"

Anyway yeah... pretty sure thats generally called "rape"... especially if it involves you having a shotgun.
Not that I care mind you. Just putting that out there.

Anyway if the drummer is sick I suggest he stops playing, goes to bed and takes some garlic oil pearls.
There are loopholes round that shit, trust me I got it covered.

Stockholm Syndrome is only phase one...

Drum machine.
Or just triggered to death.

In any case, as much as I appreciate good technique, it's in the style of playing for me. I'll throw Nick Mason, Keith Moon, Bill Ward, Ian Paice and Chris Hakius as some of my favourites, and if you don't know who they are, go listen to some proper music for a change.
