Alright guys the Microsoft reveal came and went and was meet by gamer's with near universal hatred now we could start another topic about how each of us hate the Xbox and how Microsoft is a terrible company but I have a more fun idea

LETS BLAME EA instead

While that may sound random understand Microsoft would not have made a jump like this without a pretty big push me thinks a large publisher with a large amount of the market share teaming up with Microsoft could help them feel safe enough does this sound familiar.

Also EA got rid of the online pass weeks before Microsoft announced theirs and while each of us was happy with ea at the time allot of people myself included were suspicious wondering how EA would fulfill their being a massive dick quota and low and behold Microsoft adopting the exact same system that EA supposedly ditched.

Just think this is a perfect opportunity as any to change the subject and start doing what gamer's do best badmouthing EA for their constant crap. Even if it is unwarranted :)

No. No. No.

You actually think EA, a minor company compared to Microsoft, actually managed to pressure Microsoft to build an entire games system so that they can enforce a new kind of DRM?
Seriously? What's next? Sony was pressured by 2K? Nintendo bows before the might of Team Ninja?

No. Microsoft came up with this, maybe in collaboration with or with the support of EA.

No, I am not absolving Microsoft of this disaster. Microsoft owns this debacle, and we need to accept that. By all reports this reveal seems to be one of the biggest misjudgments of a consumer base the industry has ever seen. EA is not the one who is to blame for it.

Let's assume for a moment that EA was the primary reason Microsoft is pushing for DRM and used game control. Even if that's true, it's still Microsoft that is trying to sell us a console with these "features". Also, it would mean that Microsoft cares more about appeasing major publishers than focusing on their customers. And not focusing on their customers is why there's so much bullshit on the 360.

Now, I can guarantee that EA does support this move by Microsoft, but I don't think that they were the reason this stuff is being implemented. It's possible, certainly, but Microsoft has done enough bullshit in the past that I am completely confident that they were able to dream up this bullshit all by themselves.

Having EA at the center and saying it is "all their fault" is silly.

The main reason I'm saying this: The Xbox3 is 95% US-TV Centric. They are gearing it all around you being able to access TV and access things about the TV Show you're watching. EA has nothing to do with TV, except for the NFL, and, even then, they profit off of the game side of the Xbox3, not the TV Side (NFL makes it off the NFL).

More than likely their move to "get rid of online passes" was because they KNEW that the Xbox3 would have severe draconian DRM like this, rather than the other way around.

I see the timing of EA announcing no more online passes and Microsoft announcing their used games model and potentially always online nature, but I fail to see how this shows any sort of back room deal between EA and Microsoft. It may be that EA was deciding to ditch the online pass for a while, but they only just now got the motion approved. It may have been in response to them winning "Worst Company in America" two years in a row, and the timing certainly works out in that case. After the fiasco surrounding Sim City, they may have decided that they needed to do something major to regain gamer trust, and getting rid of one of their most unpopular systems was a pretty good way of doing that. Also, in the off chance that it had anything to do with Microsoft/EA relations, it is also possible that EA knew about Microsoft's system and decided it was a good chance to look good because they wouldn't be losing too much money anyways (though, keep in mind, they're losing their share of Playstation used games sales in the process). If Microsoft did talk to companies like EA about this system, it is very unlikely EA was the only one that backed them, as I doubt they would go through with this if they are looking for publisher supporter and only got one (albeit large) company.

In short, there are way too many possibilities here, all of which making much more sense than Microsoft and EA working together to come up with a system like this. Chances are, the two events are unrelated, as, even though EA may lose nothing from used game sales on the Xbox One, they will still lose out of Playstation sales; and even if the events are related, EA would share little to no blame for what Microsoft did.

They are still to be blamed for their support of Microsoft. EA just can't resist not being a **** for too long after all. It's clear that it was in the know of Microsoft's new DRM console and that's why it dropped on-line passes timely so it would look good in our eyes. As always they are on the opposite side of the aisle when it comes to our interests.

No-one said they're completely guilt-free, only that MS is to blame for this particular debacle.

While I'm all for misplaced EA rage, now is not the time. Microsoft earned this.

Looks like someone is a bit mad that their beloved Microsoft is getting some hate and is trying to get people to jump on the cliche bandwagon of hating EA.

Really? What makes you think that? They apparently designed the Xbox One for people who like sports, TV and Call of Duty, which is a very small part of the people who play Xbox 360. That sounds kinda familiar... Remember that company that made Windows 8 and designed it for tablet users (all 5 of them that have a laptop that can switch to a tablet), along with doing the same for Office 2013? Who was that again? Oh yeah, it was Microsoft! So, this does not surprise me at all.

Hey, EA's not the one who made Microsoft makes such bad PR decisions. They've proven they can do that themselves.

It's not normally okay to take part in schadenfreude. Now is an okay time.

It is okay to have it out for Microsoft's XBOX division right now. Because Microsoft's XBOX division clearly has it out for us.

Now we get to enjoy seeing it blow up in their face.
Also, we're having a party. Come join us. Microsoft are the bonfire.

No. EA does not hold sway over console producers, if they did them not making games for Nintendo would actually have some tangible effect for when and how it was released and marketed.

The fact is Microsoft had a lot of time to figure out what they wanted to do with this console and they made it perform worse then already existing technology in things like smart TVs and universal remote controls. Not only that but as a GAME CONSOLE this thing is a train wreck with DRM installe up the wahzoo, an anti-used games system, and lack of any backwards compatibility. On top of that they failed miserably when they tried to one up the sony conference for the PS4. I wasn't all that interested in the PS4 to begin with (im quite happy with my PC) but the feeling of the PS4 was they really wanted to show consumers what the thing could do. However the Microsoft show felt like they weren't really all that interested in showing gamers what a GAME console can do. Instead Microsoft focused on TV, sports, and more sports. If they only want their fratboy demographic that doesn't read forums and usually doesn't care about bad business practices then that's fine but they just screwed the pooch when it came to marketing the thing to the rest of us.

Here is the big point. They knew they had a bad console and they choose to announce it this way. It was a choice to screw people over with a console that is the incarnation of everything gamers despise when it comes to bad business practices.

To be fair, there is still time to change the problems with this console. The very act of talking about this might spur them into making the console more gamer friendly. I don't think they'll take any opinions of gamers and try to make changes though. If they cared what gamers thought they wouldn't have made that monstrosity

Edit: Also just to point out something. If Microsoft was pushed into making a new console it was by gamers

Nah, I'll stick to hating the Xbone for a while longer (all eternity). Hell I hate my 360 and wished I had never bought the fucking thing.

The only thing either of those two can do better than my PC is play games, because I haven't bothered with physical upgrades yet which is going to change within the month. The social/mulit-media aspect console manufacturers are so keen to push these past few years? My PC has been doing all that far better for fucking years and will likely continue to do so as far flung into the future as I can imagine.

You cant blame EA for Microsoft jumping the shark.

you might as well blame Valve capcom or Bethesda.

I very much doubt EA Cares what Microsoft does they can still sell PC or PS4 games so Im sure If the Xbone (fuck now I'm doing it) Fails they will care very little.

I love my Xbox360. I've had lots of fun with it over the past several years.

I want to continue to support microsoft but I cannot because of their completely bullshit ways of making a "game" console like this. I don't give a shit if it is a Mulitmedia center at all. I REALLY DON'T CARE, If I don't use it, I won't. It's that simple.

I don't care about installing my games.
I don't care about required Kinect
I care about simply being able to play a game because I fucking own it
I care about being able to play the Xbox ANYWHERE regardless of the time I was last online

I'm the Lugia and my target is Microsoft right now:

Keep in mind Microsoft makes its money of Game and Xbox Live sales, not console sales. It's interests line up pretty heavily with EA, no need for EA to pressure MS.

Uh I don't care WHY they did what they did, Microsoft still decided to forward a uniquely mediocre console. They're going to have to carry that weight.
