Cheers for the help guys!! I'll have a crack at these methods later.

if all else fails i'll just start the game again and work up with some of the augmentations in mind.

Quick and easy way: 1.)go to cover behind the wall immediately in front of you, 2.)throw 1 emp grenade, 3.)throw 2 or 3( can't remember which it was) frag grenades, 4.)you win

The yellow canisters will release a cloud of poisonous gas on impact, stunning and damaging him. The red barrels will explode when thrown, obviously damaging him. If you're ill-equipped to handle the boss - as, I think, everyone is the first time round - then these are completely invaluable.

Throw the container, find the next one, repreat until success.

Yeah, shooter hybrids do have the tendency to assume the player puts some skill points in general combat. Although all the stealth guys should be thankful that when HR puts you in the shoes of an ex-SWAT head of security, he can actually shoot straight.

Always funny how Mass Effect 1 and Alpha Protocol made you a soldier... only said soldier was a blind drunk Imperial Stormtrooper who couldn't hit a planet with a nuclear weapon unless he dedicated a dozen points to the skill first.

Eh, people have already explained how to do this, but as far as tips I can throw at you go, just remember to stock up on frag mines prior to the fight. Never use them for anything but bosses. Barrett has the most health of all the bosses and he takes 6 mines to kill, with later ones taking 4 and 5. this amount of mines is actually pretty easy to get, being as every time you are faced with mines throughout the game there are 2 or 3 minimum.

There really is no special gimmick to the fight. You have more than ample weaponry for it (more than quite a few people had, going into that fight, I dare say)
haha i went the stealthy route, and i normally knocked a few guards out for the ammo.

I've tried looking for the grenades, but i'll have to try the tactics you gave me. I'll give em a go next time i can get me dirty mits on the tellie. because the first thing i make sure i do i shoot the barrel near him. and then i fling the one rocket i do have at him.
Would you like the simple trick?

Shoot him with the taser.

Throw a barrel.

Shoot him with the taser.

Throw a barrel.

Shoot him.

---

On Deus Ex difficulty this plus perhaps a few shots at his head (pistol with anti armor upgrade works well) will take him out easily.

Why no one thinks to tase the bosses is beyond me.

Works better than those grenades.
Stop suggesting things that suck!

Gosh all your ideas want him to load up on huge inventory space or whatever else.

Just do this... simple and effortless.

The stun gun gives you a great opportunity to land some hits. Stun, pew pew pew, run like hell, reload, do it again.

All those praxis points apparently went straight to the bitching and moaning augs. Invest in thinking and ingenuity next time around.

One thing no one has mentioned yet is his grenade spam. Once you damage him enough, he'll start tossing 5 grenades at a time in your general direction. You'll know when he's about to toss them when he says his little catchphrase. When he does this you have to move and fast as the explosions are pretty much one hit kills even on the medium difficulty. Because of the spread they can be very tough to avoid unless you do the one thing that you generally don't want to do at any other time in the fight. While he's throwing, run straight at him and then past him to take cover to his rear. He can't turn or readjust his throwing aim once he's started the toss.

Well I'm not going to beat around the bush, I'm fucking struggling with the first boss fight. yes the first one laugh if you want. but I'm currently fucked at the moment as i don't have many explosives, and almost no grenades and all i have is shotgun pistol combat and machine pistol. first i thought it was a difficulty problem and i switched to easy.

It's the Barrett fight if anyones lost so far,

and anytime i try and run for different cover i just get raped by his massive erectional mini gun extension on his arm. HELP???AEFA@#R@#R
Two methords I can think of -

1) Hit him with a Stun Gun or EMP Grenade. Run close and spam the Typhoon like crazy.

2) When you do not have the Typhoon, kick his ass Donkey Kong style instead - as demonstrated here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVe2Jlq4FiE. This was done on Normal - it takes one more Barrel on Deus Ex difficulty.

I stun gunned him then used my pimped out assault rifle to blow his brains out.

Simples.

Can you cloak? If you can, cloak and then switch cover. Recharge, then cloak again and keep moving. Eventually, he'll lose track of you and you can set up ambushes. For example:

Get to the other side of the room, take cover, poke your head out and fire in bursts. As he's coming back at you, cloak and move. It will take a bit, but he'll go down. That's how I beat him. I had an assault rifle though, so I'm sure that made in slightly easier. Same idea though. If you can't cloak, then I'm afraid I'm useless and you'll have to look to a different post.

I threw a can of toxic gas at him, and while he was stunned, barraged him with explosive barrels. When he recovered, I repeated the process. If you expend all the barrels and he's still not dead, pick up one of the many weapons lying about the room and blow his brains out.

OH YES!
Having you not have to invest points into gun usage is the best thing they've done by removing anything. I reaaaaally like that.
