I've got the ZP gun avatar, where he shoots shurikens and lightning, its on fire and has tits.. Just because its flocking awesome!
Puppeteer Putin is my RTS in-game name. Nothing particularly special.
When I was joining the forum I did a quick google search. Found this Matrix like photo of Prime Minister Putin himself and presto, you have an avatar. I also aim to make the image as satirical or as absurd as possible... because no one ever makes fun of the Putin-ator. Probably for good reason.

I made mine (not the pink background and eyes, thanks whoever did that).
I got the idea from Taxi Driver, he used the default male Escapist avatar and drew on a stupid face. So I used the female Escapist avatar and drew on gold eyes and a scary grin:
That avatar is pretty much me, minus the black hair and gold eyes (unfortunately). I'm going to stick with it now, I love it and quite a few of the veterans here like it too.

Mine has changed a few times, but 2D shows my love of Gorillaz, and the blank stare that I wear on my face most of the time.
Mine is the spanish inquisitors from Monty Python, as miniatures. I found the picture on the interwebs. I don't pretend my avatar symbolises anything, except my weapons; fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the pope and a nice red uniform.

Hehe, I don't bother with avatars usually, stick one on sometimes but ignore it forever more, they're not that important to me.
