Silent Hill and the well-adjusted

So I just watching a video someone did on the various ISSUES of various "Silent Hill victims". And it was rather hilarious, I have to say. But it got me thinking.

What would happen if a sane, well-adjusted person at peace with himself, his parents, his siblings, his extended family, his pets, and universe at large were to stumble into Silent Hill? Someone whose life is fine, who has no phobias, compulsions or neurosis of any kind? Would the town scare the bejeezus out of them anyway? Would it simply ignore them and just be a town? Would the malice and horror of Silent Hill be destroyed by that much bland normality? What do you think?

"hmmm, this certainly is a strange old abandoned town. Looks like people just up and left one day, i'll google it when i get home, well guess i'll just carry on and hopefully get to the next town over soon enough."

Everyone who stumbles into/gets stuck in Silent Hill is there for a reason: to deal with a horrible act or event that has transpired in their own lives that manifests itself into a variety of monstrosities all out to get you.

Some live, some die, some escape, and some become stuck/attached to the town.

If I were to stumble into the town, you bet that I would have monstrosities running around after me that you can base a whole game on it. What's worse is that I'll see it coming and there won't be much to do in terms of avoiding it. In the end I feel that the biggest hurtle will be myself, and it will be a real struggle to keep myself from simply giving in and becoming a part of the madness.

I don't think anyone who is well adjusted would even find the town, like the person above me said, everyone who is there is there for a reason. But if someone well adjusted did, I imagine it would just be an abandoned town to them.

Yes, quite simply they wouldn't find it, I wonder though if they did would it be abandoned? Or would it be a normal, peaceful town? Maybe Silent Hill really exists, maybe you've even drove through it on a trip somewhere in your past...

Ha! I like some of the answers we're getting in this thread.

But in actuality, the person you described doesn't exist. At least, considering you're using it in the extreme sense. You don't need a dark past full of psychological trauma to get the town's attention. I think the town generally just brings out any personal demons one might have.

Hell, something as simple as sexual frustration has the general effect of bringing out the sexy nurse monsters.

"Normal" people who go to Silent Hill don't see anything bad. There have been a few characters exactly like that, who are innocent and pure, who stumble into the town and don't experience anything bad at all.

Remember, Silent Hill mirrors an individual's darkness and inner-demons. You don't have to be perfect to be free of Silent Hill's grasp, you just need to be without deep, dark secrets and regret.

As it has been pointed out, innocent people do go to SH. The most notable example is Laura from SH2. To her, Silent Hill was just a normal town. There are typically three worlds in SH. The fog world, other world, and the real world. Most people experience SH in the real world. There the town is still populated and mostly typical.

Before SH2, James and Mary spent their honey moon there and that was after the events of the first Silent Hill. They found the town really enjoyable before James' return trip in SH2.

They'd see a quiet little lakeside resort town because Silent Hill exists as a normal, inhabited town in the real world.

But now that I'm thinking about it, what about Cybil from SH1? Dr Kauffman and Lisa I understand but you never find out anything about Cybil - and she obviously was in the same SH as Harry. I doubt she normally hands out guns civilians =P

Well, I got two theories there, either they'd enter a completely normal tourist town, or they'd enter the "foggy" hill, and not have any reason to stay, and leave. Whether the town lets them leave, I don't know. It doesn't seem to have as much of a fondness for tormenting such people, but I find it hard to believe it'd come over all friendly and just let the poor guy leave. Personally I'm a fan of the former theory, that silent hill chooses people to drag into the foggy/dark world. It definately seems, however, that "normal" people would not be able to enter the dark world. Things in there are often related to the main characters skeletons in their closet.
