I thought the director made some brave decisions regarding the continuity from the game, but I think it works.
Changing Harry Mason into a woman was a great idea - you genuinely feel worried for her well being, which if I'm being politically correct in saying - is what the director was going for. A female protagonist who can show that full on maternal instinct to save her daughter, even from a fate worse than death? Spooooky.
I thought some of the graphics in the film were good, but it definitely looks older than it is.
Also - I believe this is THE ONLY FILM WHERE SEAN BEAN SURVIVES!...ever.
He dies in EVERYTHING. His career is built around him dying, I bet he was shocked when he read the script and saw that he doesn't die in the end =P
