Holy crap did you pick a bad time to start properly posting in the Escapist forums. But you don't need me to tell you that EA is pretty much seen as the Jar-Jar Binks of Videogame publishers around here.
If I were in your shoes I think I would have left in disgust by now, which is a real shame because having more actual employees and ex-employees of the gaming industry in our forums can only be a good thing, and it would be awesome to have you as an active voice here.
...
Anyway... Welcome to the Escapist. I hope you stick around!
Haha, thanks! I already commented in another thread that while I am a longtime vet of EA, I am not adverse to being just as upset by some things they do just like everyone else, and I share my input when I feel the need to do so. I also though, make sure to give them credit where credit is due and try to put some proper light on things when people shoot from the hip and get a bit loose with facts just to back up their opinions.
I'm actually not all *that* new around here, I just used to lurk a lot, lot more. I finally got more active recently though when I began to care less about what my reputation in the industry might become if I spoke out more.

What is it with that guy, anyway? Chemical Alia is the only other red texter I know of on here, but I have never once felt like she was unduly defending Gearbox for anything, and what's more, it's a rare thread about Gearbox that I see her in. She just posts wherever, because in addition to working in the industry, she's a bonified gamer. Sargonas comes off as a paid shill, despite claiming to only be a former EA employee, not a current one.
Seriously, Sargonas, dial it back a bit man. You're actually making EA look worse by doing this, not better.
As for Sim City's launch woes: can't say I'm sad about that. Let EA eat crow. I hope this convinces the people who pre-orered to not do that for anything from EA again until they stop pulling crap like this. Although I guess if they haven't figured out how bad of a deal pre-ordering much of anything in the way of AAA games is by now, they probably won't just because of a little thing like paying for a broken husk of a game without a chance of a refund.
As to being an EA apologist as others have said. I don't feel thats the case. I love the time I worked there, I love the people I worked with, and I loved some of the games I worked on. I also hated some of the corporate bullshit, hated some of the politics, and greatly resent the fact I was let go under the shiitty circumstances of which I was.
The thing is, this industry is small and incestuous. It's easy to speak about some things defensively when the facts are at times being misrepresented, and you want to better educate people. It's much harder to speak out against things however, when you have friends and family there you don't want to tear down. Even more so if you want a job at another studio else where in the industry, as they will see how vocally harsh you are over you ex-company and take a dim view. It's a fine line that is hard to walk at times which is why so few devs post openly.
If you look back through what I say though you will see that a very small percentage of what I talk about is EA specific. The vast majority of the time I don't make directly supportive statements of EA in a specific situation. Instead I talk about generalities of the industry and why some things are some ways, and why the industry as a whole makes some of the choices (and mistakes) that it makes and the rationale (right or wrong) behind it. Never have I said "EA is awesome be nice to them!". I just show up in a lot of EA related threads because those are the ones where people post things that engage me and make me want to post. Some of the other threads are just, well, inane and pointless and I have no desire to join into the discussion. Look around though and you will see that only about 2/3rds of the threads I post in, at most, related to EA.
One final bit of note... I've given up on Sim City until the weekend and don't intend to try to play it again till then. In the meantime I just a moment ago bought Cities XL and am going to check that out to get my fix. I'm gonna come back in a few days over the weekend though and give Sim City a fresh opinion and one last chance... after all it's not like they killed my puppy. *shrug* Thats the truth, for what it's worth.
