Amazon has stopped selling SimCity due to the server errors. Maybe, just maybe EA will learn something from this now.

Excuse me for a second, I'm just going to admire the fact that EA will lose many customers over this. :3

I read that on Reddit as well, but as per a friend it's still quite available on Amazon. So I dunno.

They do have a wee little warning on there.

Looking at your link, I don't think there IS a "standard edition". You're probably looking at a discontinued product.

Looks fine to me. Granted I won't actually try because I don't want it. There is an "EA servers suck" disclaimer.

I clicked on the link. It said Standard Edition: Download. And beneath that, it said Currently Unavailable.

Judging by that, I get the impression that it could very well be the standard edition of the game, and it indeed may not be entirely available. Just a hunch though...
Except there is no "standard edition". It's been called the "Limited Edition" for ages now. Go to Origin. There are only two versions of the game. Limited, and Digital Deluxe.

http://www.amazon.com/SimCity-Limited-Edition-Pc/dp/B007FTE2VW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362693323&sr=8-1&keywords=simcity

And it's still very much available, although it looks like their stock of codes is almost out.

"Standard" is obviously some former naming scheme that got dumped, hence it's unavailable.

Not defending the state of the game, mind you. But Amazon is still selling it.

It's still on amazon. You can still buy it, it just has the same popup text that Diablo 3 had at launch week. "Important Note on "SimCity"
Many customers are having issues connecting to the "SimCity" servers. EA is actively working to resolve these issues, but at this time we do not know when the issue will be fixed. Please visit https://help.ea.com/en/simcity/simcity for more information."

They did the same thing with Diablo, so nothing really new there. They did however run out of digital download codes simply due to demand, and are waiting for more. Physical copies are still much available.

EDIT: I stand corrected! Looks like the boxed versions are not sold by amazon, and the digitals have indeed been suspended. Well that's certainly interesting! Though who knows the reason why, it could be as innocuous as Amazon running out of Keys to hand out, or it could be that they simply feel that it's a bad user experience and are freezing it until that resolves. It could also be that EA asked them to, in order to stem the tide of people trying to log in. Still, without a proper statement from anyone official on either side it's hard to know and could be anything. Def doesn't look good though. No argument from me there at all.

Uhm, you are looking at the Retail Version of the game, and it clearly also says "Ships from and sold by GameCyberStore.".

Click on the "PC Download" tab and you will see it is quite unavailable, as clearly indicated by the big:
"Currently unavailable
We don't know when or if this item will be available again."
on your screen.

As is the Retail Edition over Amazon directly. Resellers may still offer it though, which you seem to be mistaking for Amazon.

Ah, you are correct. I still have no idea what this "standard edition" is, though.

You're not in any position to be accusing others of being biased when it comes to EA, Captain Glass House. =\

I have good reason and a large foundation on which to base my dislike of EA on by now and I don't think you know what "biased" means. It doesn't mean holding a strong opinion over something.

On the other hand we have two avowing (Ex?)-EA employees of what appears to be 5+ years each that don't seem to omit a single chance to jump to EAs defense over all of their latest consumer-loathing bullshit and jump to the defense of such at every chance provided.
I know exactly what biased means, and I am applying it 100% correctly. You can argue that you have good reason for your bias. We all believe we have good reasons for our biases. It's why we hold them. But it is still a bias. Arguing vociferously that you do not have a bias when you clearly do is actually kind of concerning. You don't need to justify your shit to me with a million links, Dexter. I know perfectly well why you don't like EA, and I'm highly sympathetic towards that at the moment. It's still a bias.

What is it with that guy, anyway? Chemical Alia is the only other red texter I know of on here, but I have never once felt like she was unduly defending Gearbox for anything, and what's more, it's a rare thread about Gearbox that I see her in. She just posts wherever, because in addition to working in the industry, she's a bonified gamer. Sargonas comes off as a paid shill, despite claiming to only be a former EA employee, not a current one.

Seriously, Sargonas, dial it back a bit man. You're actually making EA look worse by doing this, not better.

As for Sim City's launch woes: can't say I'm sad about that. Let EA eat crow. I hope this convinces the people who pre-orered to not do that for anything from EA again until they stop pulling crap like this. Although I guess if they haven't figured out how bad of a deal pre-ordering much of anything in the way of AAA games is by now, they probably won't just because of a little thing like paying for a broken husk of a game without a chance of a refund.

Holy crap did you pick a bad time to start properly posting in the Escapist forums. But you don't need me to tell you that EA is pretty much seen as the Jar-Jar Binks of Videogame publishers around here.

If I were in your shoes I think I would have left in disgust by now, which is a real shame because having more actual employees and ex-employees of the gaming industry in our forums can only be a good thing, and it would be awesome to have you as an active voice here.

I think I should clarify at this point that I don't agree with many of EA's practices, and although I recognise that it is a company that needs to make money to function (and is currently struggling to do this) I will always side with what I believe is best for the gamers and consumers, and on that principle I think the release of Simcity has been a pretty big shambles.

That said, I hope our initial hostility doesn't put you off too much (We're not just an EA hating site, Go to Off-topic and you'll see we can be very diverse in our hate; including but not limited to feminists, guns, Justin Bieber, Michael Bay, and of course Michael Bay's guns.)

Anyway... Welcome to the Escapist. I hope you stick around!

Haha, thanks! I already commented in another thread that while I am a longtime vet of EA, I am not adverse to being just as upset by some things they do just like everyone else, and I share my input when I feel the need to do so. I also though, make sure to give them credit where credit is due and try to put some proper light on things when people shoot from the hip and get a bit loose with facts just to back up their opinions.

I'm actually not all *that* new around here, I just used to lurk a lot, lot more. I finally got more active recently though when I began to care less about what my reputation in the industry might become if I spoke out more.

As to being an EA apologist as others have said. I don't feel thats the case. I love the time I worked there, I love the people I worked with, and I loved some of the games I worked on. I also hated some of the corporate bullshit, hated some of the politics, and greatly resent the fact I was let go under the shiitty circumstances of which I was.

The thing is, this industry is small and incestuous. It's easy to speak about some things defensively when the facts are at times being misrepresented, and you want to better educate people. It's much harder to speak out against things however, when you have friends and family there you don't want to tear down. Even more so if you want a job at another studio else where in the industry, as they will see how vocally harsh you are over you ex-company and take a dim view. It's a fine line that is hard to walk at times which is why so few devs post openly.

If you look back through what I say though you will see that a very small percentage of what I talk about is EA specific. The vast majority of the time I don't make directly supportive statements of EA in a specific situation. Instead I talk about generalities of the industry and why some things are some ways, and why the industry as a whole makes some of the choices (and mistakes) that it makes and the rationale (right or wrong) behind it. Never have I said "EA is awesome be nice to them!". I just show up in a lot of EA related threads because those are the ones where people post things that engage me and make me want to post. Some of the other threads are just, well, inane and pointless and I have no desire to join into the discussion. Look around though and you will see that only about 2/3rds of the threads I post in, at most, related to EA.

One final bit of note... I've given up on Sim City until the weekend and don't intend to try to play it again till then. In the meantime I just a moment ago bought Cities XL and am going to check that out to get my fix. I'm gonna come back in a few days over the weekend though and give Sim City a fresh opinion and one last chance... after all it's not like they killed my puppy. *shrug* Thats the truth, for what it's worth.
