You'll have to go with CitiesXL. It's a bit different, but I think I prefer it. Plus, it's recent.

Yep, I came in here to suggest that. Haven't played it myself, but I was still surprised I wasn't seeing any mentions. Then I got to the last post XD

There's also the Tropico games. I haven't played those either (frankly I lost track of the city builder genre when it slipped from being relatively mainstream to being a tiny niche. Caesar 2 and the original Sim City are still my favorites), but they're at least in the right ball park.

Tropico is very small-scale, though, with a population in the hundreds, every person having all their info available, every building placed manually, and taking place on an island that takes five to ten minutes to walk across. It's more along the lines of Stronghold's economic campaign, really.

But it's still there, and still very fun.

But now that you've mentioned Caesar 2, that's gone and reminded me that Pharaoh exists. It's old, but it's my favorite city-builder.
