Let's face it the always online stuff could of been awesome had they done it right. Building and working together with friends to develop a region and such. It could of been sweet but their implementation didn't really capitalize on any of this. You basically ended up with a product that is a bit like what steam was when it was first released. Crappy DRM that keeps you from playing the game how you'd like.

I'm not sure if it can get worse than this. Cracking the game to play offline is one thing, but to be able to go and edit other people's cities is really bad. From what this guy is saying, it doesn't even take much to do it.

You realize none of that saves right?

He modded it to allow you to do anything you want when you visit, but it doesn't save those changes.

Even without modding you can place parks and modify trade depots, but none of it saves.

That's because he didn't enable saving.

Which means that greifers can eventually enable saving and start screwing with cities.

It doesn't mean that at all.
He did it to be on the safe side.
I think that if he did try saving, the server would have rejected it (because he isn't logged in as the city owner) and he would have been banned from origin for the hack attempt.
the only way to know for sure is to try it, and risk the ban...

To "enable saving" is no easy task. The reason he can trash other cities is because he's only trashing his local copy. So this is really a non-story.

Please don't report bullshit. It's hard enough to keep track of the real bugs and mess ups with regards to simcity without fake bugs animated in the name of the hate train.

Quote from the description

"I am worried about people that go deeper into the code and start spoofing the owner ID's of cities and start doing this maliciously though. Hopefully there are server side safeties on this... hmmm."

In other words, it's too soon to tell what is possible. Though don't be surprised if real hacking starts to occur.
