let me first start this by saying that I am a huge simpsons fan, i've spent my whole life watching the Simpsons, and I love them.
and I say this as a Simpsons fan,: The Simpsons needs to die!

over the past several years, I have been slowly noticing my favorite show degrading more and more and more with each season. Today, after not watchjing the simpsons for most of the season, i noticed it was on, and said to myself "the simpsons are on, awesome!" and started watching it. it was some Cheech and Chong bit this episode. 5 minutes into the show, i had to turn off my tv, because the show was such boring crap.
WHY, Simpsons?! Why are you letting this show go down into crap? Why can't you just end the show NOW, with whatever dignity it has left?!

You rally can't run any idea indefinitely. Eventually, the quality is going to taper off and then die entirely. I argue that Simpsons has been going downhill since Season 5, but it wasn't until Season 10 that it's quality took such a far dive as to throw away any semblance of being worth watching.
But whether you agree on when its decline began, we can all agree on one thing. The show is dead now and all that remains is a corpse animated by the radioactive power of green papers with the faces of US presidents on them.

Simply put, Fox is scared of new things, so they go with something that at one time was really popular. I haven't been a fan of The Simpsons since maybe season 7, and every now and then when I see a bit of a new episode, I just wonder how much longer it can go.

Hehe, its funny how people like to think that their personal feelings matter.

Too bad its all about the green (or whatever colour a country's money is. The Simpsons are marketable. Either:
1)Shut the hell up about it and get used it to it, cause no one wants to hear you have a pity party.
2)Shut the hell up about it and stop watching it, cause no one wants to hear you have a pity party.

The Simpsons is truly the WoW of our cartoons(weird, considering The Simpsons came first), despite how long it's been around it refuses to die by any hand other than its own. Quality of the show has noticeably slipped since Conan O'Brien left, even more noticeably when Matt Groening started diverted resources to Futurama (a far more lulzy show in my humble opinion).

Yeah, it probably needs to stop. But it's ascended beyond a TV show. It simply IS TV. They're forever connected. And I dunno, that's still pretty cool. It'd be nice to see it go on for 100 years with different actors and writers.
But it'll probably end as soon as one of the actors retire.

I think The Simpsons would be good as 'tv movie' type of show.

Something show once ever two or three weeks.

But, still, it has gone downhill for some times.

It started dying at Season 9. They just kept getting celebrities to appear on the show or write episodes more often and the plots got less and less realistic and were about as satirical as a Ren and Stimpy episode.

Just remember that originally, The Simpsons was only created because Groening didn't want to sell out his "Life in Hell" bunnies, so he created The Simpsons on the spot. It was never meant to be good to begin with, it was just an accident.

Wow I just had a thought.

The Simpson's have been on longer then some of this community have been alive. It has been on since before some of you were the twinkle in your mothers eye.

There have been funny episodes this season, but the latest one did suck. You see this the most with the Dan Castellaneta / Deb Lacusta written shows. I suppose they HAVE to let Homer Simpson himself write some episodes if he wants, but they generally seem weaker than most of the others. Maybe it's because they don't get rewritten as much for fear of pissing him off.

The show died on Season 19. All it is now is a zombie.
No show has ever lived for 21 years, and it's long enough time for a show to run completely out of ideas. The technological advancements in making the episodes made the show lost its cartoony flexibility and freedom, it's too real now.

Matt Groening, FOX, put the show to rest. It's gone through enough.

Just be glad it's not as bad as it was about 3 years ago.
