Out of simple curiosity, does anyone get upset over in consistencies in the shows, or just laugh at it

I can't stand "The Simpsons". At all.

I have never found it funny, and have given it plenty of chances to prove itself.

The old episodes were tolerable, atleast in my opinion they were.

But the new stuff... Ugh.

It's like the writers are trying to get fired.

And to address the OP, I don't normally care. I try my best to laugh at them.

The Simpsons used to be one of the greatest shows of all times. Now it's just sad to watch it continue to air.

The old stuff is just as bad to me.

The only character I like is Chief Wiggum.

The Simpons is like watching the really slow kid with braces who's bad at sports trying to play hockey but just ends up getting beaten to a pulp.

If its a show I enjoy then I try and think of reasonable, cannonical ways to justify slip ups in continuity.

Matt Groening was the brains behind The Simpsons and the show was at its best when he had the most creative control. The Simpsons is very unusual for American comedy as it has quite a lot of subtle humour, something that most US comedy shows simply don't do. The non-inclusion of a "laugh track" or "studio audience" really helped The Simpsons, because it didn't telegraph to the audience what to laugh at, therefore allowing for more subtle and multi-layered readings of the humour. Adults, teens and kids could all interpret an episode completely differently without ever thinking "why is the audience laughing at THAT?" and there were easter eggs in every episode for this purpose. In this respect, The Simpsons is probably the most influential comedy cartoon ever made.

It did falter over time, and some episodes nowadays are particularly rubbishy, but even at it's worst The Simpsons still fares better than clones such as Family Guy, that copy all the superficial aspects of The Simpsons but don't really understand how and why the humour aspect of it works.

It was better when the jokes weren't completely obvious. It was better when the characters weren't gross caricatures, when Homer was actually nice once in a while, when Bart actually cared about Lisa, when Marge wasn't violent. It was better when the episodes would have emotion.

Then they dumped all that on a barge and sailed it into the middle of Bad Place River, and all they have left is the husk of what used to be.

Wow, this sums it up quite well.

I used to love the show, and I can still watch the older ones and enjoy them. The newer series, however, I really can't stand. It just isn't the same.

Been so long since I watch The Simpsons I can't really compare older and newer episode, which ones are better and stuff. I can say that I probably enjoyed the 15 first seasons (not watching it in it's original form, but translated from the American version to french Canadian often made me watch the same seasons mixed up a bit, so I have no idea which season I was following.) I did saw some of the last season episodes (in the original version), was enjoyable.

I get upset at the inconsistency in quality.
Season 1-4 funny
Season 5-8 genius
Season 9-11 funny but slipping
Season 12+ wtf?

It went downhill after the movie was released. Even before then, the series was starting to slide down into mediocrity

Which one? Some are good, some are decent, some are terrible.

Your avatar is out of Futurama, which had about the same humor for the most part.

Anyway, there are some truly hilarious and well-written episodes, simply as far as comedic writing goes, not limited to being The Simpsons. The newer episodes are painful though.

You see, it works in Futurama. The setting and characters are perfectly executed, there is no family dynamic, and it shows a hysterical take on aliens.

Overall I love The Simpsons and was raised by it alongside Pokemon and Sonic, and I still get excited when my Tivo records an episode from 1993-2001. Sure, it declined a good deal, but it's still doing quite well for something that went 400+ episodes.

Of course, I must acknowledge that barring the very best of The Simpsons, Futurama is even better.

Its OK. Something good to play in the background if you understand. Every now and then it'll fart out a good joke.
