i wanna thank fetzenfishc for the quote (i hope i got your name right)
anyways this got me thinking when i was about 14-15

i used to believe that i was the only human with an actually soul and everyone else was made to influence events in my life (yeah i had my head pretty far up my ass) am i the only one that thinks this one and I'm a weirdo or maybe this is a truly valid point

Well, since I have such an inferiority complex, I could always murder the shit out of you to become a main character myself

No, that's a valid point. That's why Descartes started with "Cogito Ergo Sum", and his later ideas aren't as well remembered.

The idea that reality is an illusion is also a part of certain eastern philosophies, or so I am led to believe.

There is no way whatsoever to prove or disprove the existence of any universe beyond the observor.

i used to think that, then i sort of reached an epiphany and started realising the years and years behind people that i never thought about and that had no effect on me but hte people i saw for a split second on the street had 20+ years before that point. i am really bad with words so that proably came out wrong but if you can start to see everyone as the sum of their time you get a really different view on everyone.

Solipsism. Look it up. It ranks as the 2nd biggest possible (*) conspiracy theory, and is that popular because it:

- ...is not with 100% certainity disprovable, unless one has a damn good understanding about ontology - not even most so-called philosophers and scientists have this degree of understanding, and thus can only appeal to probability.

- ...it seems plausible to the unexperienced

- ...it appeals to the wish for the fantastic.

- ...it is seemingly comfortable, and seemingly justifies a lot of.... things.

( * = It ranks only 2nd highest, because there is another scenario that is even more total, and the irony is that this other scenario is most probably true (hint: Solipsism still excludes the solipsist from the conspiracy) )

I also think that's a valid point. You will always be the main character in your life, no matter what, as you can only see the world through your eyes. That's true for almost anyone.

That doesn't mean you cannot care about other people, thought.

Well, I was going to say this.
So yeah, it's not just arrogance but a whole philosophical standpoint.
Exactly this AND arrogance ^^

plus: I was quoted in a thread title YAY, another proof for my theory :)

Is somebody doing philosophy in here?

I know I'm just a single soul among billions. Just makes it more of a challenge to rise above the rest.

"Doing philosophy"? No, but I am a Philosophy Major. Not sure I would want to do the nasty with an academic disciplin. Just seems wrong.

Almost every teenager in the world thinks this at one point.

And will deny that ANYONE else ever felt that way.

And will tell it to their teenagers...so the cycle repeats.

I think that, and then wonder why I bother with other people at all if none of you fuckers are even real. Then I cry myself to sleep.
