IS it though? It looks kinda gimmicky... The whole sandbox-create-stuff thing is alright, but where's the actual game?

Creating buildings and sculptures are only part of the game, there's also the survival horror aspect of it that occurs at night and the dungeon crawling aspect when you explore caves.

You can also create interesting traps, like a pit that drowns enemies and harvests their remains.

Yes but I heard that part of it was undeveloped / not very good / doesn't work?

Its that way simply because the game isn't complete yet...Its only in its alpha phase. Thats why its half price right now. I suggest jumping on it now, because if you don't like it, at least you'd only have paid half price instead of full.

I played it for a couple hours... Fine, an entire afternoon and evening. While I like the idea and the game itself, and I'd really like to continue playing, I just can't bring myself. I keep finding "better" things to do.
Unlike World of Warcraft, for example, which I intentionally avoid and despise.

Yes, I'm an Admin on both of the servers I play on. The different blocks you're talking about are from classic, not Alpha. That's why they look different.

I bought it a while ago. I'm surprisingly enthralled... and me and my buddies can't wait for the multiplayer to be improved for survival mode.
It will truly become something great to see player run villages trying mutually to survive when the game evolves.
