I've yet to find a 'classic' game that I enjoy. I think that the oldest game I enjoy is Deus Ex.

Blast Corps for the N64.

I recently dug out my Gamecube, and found that every game I owned for it subverted this. They're all still awesome!

Not so with the PS2, most PS2 games I tried to replay didn't thrill, so I popped in some PS1 Final Fantasys and had a blast (PS2 FFX still was good).

A few years ago I was quite a fan of Age of Mythology, and I still play it every once in a while, and it's still pretty damn good. A 100-foot-tall Titan stomping all over your opponent's city always makes for fun times.

The Simpsons Wrestling. That game seemed so awesome back then, but it really is awful.

I honestly did enjoy Superman 64 when I was young.

It's frightening to look back at my childhood sometimes.

I don't own this game, but boy ooh boy i wish i did!

If Sony put this on the PSN network i would so get a PS3 because of it =D

And for games i acctualy do play, the oldest i own Is Starwars Galactic Battlegrounds <3

Woops! read the thread wrong XD

Hmmm, if that's the case i'd say the Terminator game...

loved as kid, hate it now.
I own a copy of it and was playing it up until earlier this year when I lost the bloody disc in moving even now it still works as a good fun game at first you cant make your digimon very strong but as you go along and upgrade your training facilities and recruit more and more digimon to your city you progressively are able to raise stronger and stronger mon.

anywho back on topic, It's not that old a game, ps2, but when i played through the first 4 .hack// games i loved them and then I went and played the 3 sequel games, not an easy act as they weren't released in australia, good thing I had a ps2 bought in bali that could play import games. and all of a sudden when i went back to play the whole series in progression i found the originals to be so slow and jarring.

That said its the same with playing any sequel series then going back to a mre basic original im sure

Considering I had Mario Kart 64, Mario 64, Body Harvest, Worms, Bomberman 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini and both N64 Zeldas, no I have not experienced this, recently I went back to play Paper Mario because I never played it when I was younger, it was still a good game despite being quite old.
Its always nice to find those nostalgic games that were and still are kickass. Mario Kart 64 was the first video game I ever played...good times.

people compain that this gen has been the worst, but if you try to go back to playing previous gen games, you'll appreciate that this gen has actually been pretty good overall.
Not for me since I own a Wii, I've only kept the thing for the virtual console.

OT: I can't play the old Golden Eye 64 anymore buts that's because I'm bored of it and the graphics put me off a little. Lylat Wars felt pretty slow when I got back into it recently, but I didn't think any worse of it.

Goldeneye is hard with only one stick, but then, I sucked at it in the first place, so no nostalgia is lost.

I've got plenty of old-game remakes on the GBA and DS and the gameplay's timeless. Sometimes games we liked as kids don't hold up as adults because the games themselves weren't very good and the only reason we liked them was because we were kids and didn't know any better.

But Super Mario Bros.? Legend of Zelda? Tetris? Even the original SimCity? Still as solid as ever (and I contend that SimCity on the SNES still remains the greatest PC-to-console port of all time.)

Star Wars: Podracer on the N64. And recently, Super Mario 64! It was weird, I was like "this game is actually good right? RIGHT??" Then again, I find pretty much every N64 game is difficult to play because of that goddamn 3-pronged controller. No one has hands built that way. Who ever thought that was a good idea. Maybe if I could play these games with a 360 controller I'd have a more fun (read: ergonomic) time.

Pokemon stadium. I felt exactly the way you did. I found my 64, it's an awesome ice blue and I fired it up smacked the cartridge in and utter shit. I remember this game being badass and here I am quitting after one battle. Oh and this one Japanese game, but the cartridge is so old its crumpled, and not to mention has some asian characters (writing) on it. But it was a space third person shooter and it was so hard when I was younger...I push one button and the whole opposing army dies.

Everquest. Admittedly for a long time the extremely strong community made the game bearable, but when world of warcraft came out, most of the people left and the quality of the game went right out the window. Put as blunt as possible,, EQ's main problem was that the gameplay was total shit. It seemed like the game designers were attempting to make everything as horribly difficult as possible. They probably were, considering EQ was originally intended to be a pay-per-hour model, not pay-per-month. Even so, some of the things that they did were, put simply, dick moves. For example:

In one of the starting zones(qeynos hills, intended for level 15-20 IIRC), there was a random spawn that was around level 40 and hostile to the players. Thus, when he popped, he would go on a killing spree where tons of people lost XP.

The Z axis NEVER worked right, and thus monsters could hit players up on a ledge while the player was unable to respond.

One of the later dungeons was completely underwater, and several monsters could dispel enduring breath.

In one of the freaking STARING CITIES there was a giant hole in the ground you could easily run into if you weren't careful. The hole led to a zone where levitation DIDN'T WORK and you would fall all the way down and DIE ON IMPACT! The only way you could get your corpse back was to have a high level necromancer summon it. I once spent FIVE HOURS trying to coordinate a summoning for a guildmate. That zone still pisses me off when I think about it.

Another one of the starting cities was built entirely above the ground. it was stupidly hard to navigate and while the fall wasn't automatically fatal, if you were low level and had no map, you would likely fall off a ledge and die. And since the zone typically looks almost exactly the same all the way through, it would be hard to find your corpse in one specific hill when all the hills look alike.

And so forth. Somehow, I played it for five years and got up to level 63 (out of 80 at the time) How I am not sure because leveling up was so freaking repetitive. To kill monsters, you typically "kite" which is when you increase your speed, reduce the enemies speed and run away firing damage spells at the enemy. While it was okay the first dozen levels or so, it soon turns into a grindfest when you have to do it thousands of times per level. I think the only way I stood it as long as I did was because I wasn't on my antipsychotic medication at the time. Yahtzee said "going for 100% completion is for unemployed psychotics and koreans" but I think that could be said for leveling up in EQ also.

Pick any 3D console shooter from before dual-analog controllers. There you go. As awesome as Goldeneye was back in the day, it's unplayable shit now. Same with Perfect Dark and Jet Force Gemini.
Agreed. Jet Force Gemini was one of the few Rare games I thought was worth anything back in the N64's time. Trying to go back to it now, it's an unplayable mess.

Shame that companies will waste effort porting junk like Banjo Tooie and Perfect Dark, and remake other junk like Goldeneye, but a game Rare made that was actually good back then can't even get a port so it can be playable again.
