Singers Better Live

I would have to go with Anastasia Prikhodko. She evokes so much more emotion live than recorded. Who would you say is better live?

I don't know if I've ever heard a band that was better live, my favourites are all just as good.

No, wait, I have one; the Dixie Chicks. It's as if a recording studio is confining their music, and being on a stage lets it out completely.

Rush. I love their studio work too, but they really come alive in concert. Up until the latest live release, I'd also have said Genesis. I've never had the opportunity to see them in person, but I wore out my Three Sides Live tape.

Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy is great live from what i've heard. Not been to see them though.

A lot of Japanese bands always seem to sound far better live to me, like Malice Mizer. They are awesome live.

Anyway: There's a local punk band that I saw live a few weeks ago called Ashtray. They were really interesting to listen to, since they had two very different singers: A guy with a low, raspy voice, and a girl with a higher, more energetic singing style. They reminded me of a pop-punk version of Rabbit Junk, and they were incredible, easily one of the best bands I saw that night. So I bought their first album, White Sugar is the Devil.

I got home and listened to it. It just sounds... bad. The singers are in the spotlight 90% of the time, and recorded, it just sounds awful for some reason.

Hmmm... Usually I find that the vocalist is only better live if they're also a great frontman, like Benji Webbe. other than that, Paul Rogers sounds better live, because his voice is so damned huge it needs an arena to make the most of it.

There was just always something about Freddie Mercury and his live performances (which I had to listen to on audio, or watch a video of lol) that drew me in, if that counts. He just had this raw power, and emotion was plentiful.

Then again, I don't really like 'live' performances for the same reason I don't always like listening to comedy shows. Because women think yelling, "Woo!" every five minutes especially to something they only think is a reference to them is super fun, and it makes me want to stab myself in the face. Every once in awhile is alright, but every time the person says something and I hear a "WOO!" - is just too much.
