If you want ACTION focused fantasy games, Hunted: The Demon's Forge is actually really fun. Very very minimal RPG elements to it with some nice epic fights. Has a Gears of War feel to combat but with swords, sorcery and bows.

Alas there isn't a party aspect but you can direct the ai partner around on the occasion. Oh and if a friend has it, you can play the whole story through on CO-OP which is just so much more fun.

I really liked Primal for the PS2, but it's only got a few actiony bits in it, and mainly focuses on puzzle games and whatnot.

Fable was good, although 2 was OK at best, and I never bothered with 3.

The thing is, you're going to be hard pressed to find a game that lets you have a party but isn't focused on the RPG elements. I'd also recommend KotoR and Jade Empire, especially the latter since you're looking for something more fantasy than sci-fi. Plenty of action, but also plenty of rpg stuff, as well as giving you a party.

The old might and magic games are available on gog.com and they're pretty fun. It's fairly RPG in places, but you still spend most of the time eviscerating goblins, cultists, skeletons, pretty much everything really. You can't go wrong with 7 and 8, though they're getting on a bit so do look a little bit arse compared to modern graphics.

1. Hi welcome!

2. The game you have described is Dragon Age 2. Play it on a console, for the maximum "more action than RPG" effect (It's easier to make the combat tactical on the PC, and easier to have the combat feel more action-y on a console). It's made by the same company as Mass Effect 2, Bioware. If you're into story, then I recommend playing Dragon Age: Origins first, though it's combat is a lot slower and not very action-y (even on a console).

3. If you think Star Wars is more fantasy than Sci-Fi (Or find it to be enough of a hybrid), then you'll probably enjoy Knights of The Old Republic I and/or II. Also by Bioware.

Doesn't quite fit your desciption, but if you don't mind leaving just about all of the action to your gaggle of cheerfully expendable minions, you might give old "Overlord" a go. It's a fiver on Steam at current regular price.

It gets a bit grind-y at times and there's a good bit of annoying mechanically repeating lines of NPC chatter and intrusive, albeit short, cutscenes; but it is still quite satisfying to go all pointy-hand-Sauron-wannabe on the world. ;)

Dungeon Siege sounds like a game you might want to check out. It's very light on roleplaying, you don't need a score-chart to maximize your character and you have a party following you around just smashing things with clubs and magic. I have to put a disclaimer though, the last one I played was DS2 and I don't know about the latest one, but I don't see why they would drastically change the formula now so you might want to read up on it and see if it takes your fancy.

You could also try the Dungeon Siege games, though unfortunately I've only ever played the first one and its expansion. It's a very action-focused hack-and-slash fantasy game with only light RPG elements - you don't really have any option when talking to people other than "accept quest" and "close window", but the combat is pretty solid. There's only a handful of stats, which increase automatically based on what weapons you use (Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence, which govern melee, ranged and magic respectively, and the Melee, Ranged, Combat Magic and Nature Magic skills that determine your class name). It's a rather old game with a strictly linear setup, but it's still great fun to play. (Tip: Explosive Powder, and its higher-level counterpart Bomb, can be bounced out to beyond their stated range, which makes for a very good first strike on enemies - especially when clustered - from very far away.)

Arx Fatalis. in the question of immersion and story it was way better than any elder scrolls games, it was the best SP RPG for me actually, i have played it 6 times i think and it was shocking for me still. Although the game itself is sometimes frustrating because lack of stability made the game very hard for me when i played with mage and supereasy when i was playing for the strong warrior, stealth system is very very good IMO still, it is an old game but very high end for it's time, graphics are awesome and helps immersion (no floaty camera, you can look at your legs) magic system is very original and stealth was comparible with thief series. Try it, you won't be dissapointed

I guess Zelda could kinda count, seeing as the setting is high fantasy and the combat is action focused. If you have pretty much any nintendo console you can find at least one or two.

Sacred 2 Gold! A looty-loot action-rpg game packed with content and references to almost all classic sci-fi and fantasy movies of the past decade.

Oh wow, thanks everyone for all the replies o.o

The Witcher 1 & 2, Dragon Age, Fable etc- Looks too RPGish for what I'm after, but I've heard good things about these so I don't plan on ruling them out completely. From experience the real annoyance about RPGs like this is how you must pause and click on each enemy every time you attack, watch them exchange generic animations while little numbers float out of their heads. *__* Not very actiony.

On the note of party members, i think there was an Oblivion topic here a while back.. I'm on the side of the fence that yes, the game can get lonely (and in turn, boring) without party members fighting beside you. Which is why I have enjoyed games such as Neverwinter and Mass Effect.

I'll definitely check some of these other suggestions out, theres plenty I have not even heard of.. Thanks again

Hi all, I'm new here.
I know you escapees are probably sick of a lot of these recommendation threadss, but i really want to know...

Are there any good offline/single player fantasy games that are ACTION focused and NOT RPG(though I don't mind RPG elements), where you have a party(so not like The Elder Scrolls games) that follows you around? I find theres a surprising lack of these.

What I have in mind is omething like Mass effect 2 in a fantasy setting, or an actiony version of Neverwinter Nights?? If the fantasy theme in games has been done to death why is it so hard to find a game like this?
Demons's soul's and Dark souls!
A hard action game with a bit of RPG (leveling and stuff)

Everyone is saying ignore DA:2 but that sounds like exactly the game this guy wants.

Party - check
More action than RPG - check
Fantasy - check

This game is exactly ME2 in a fantasy world. It is more RPG than ME2 but, it is the closest to your demands I can think of right now from the top of my head.

Just don't forget to keep an eye out for when Amalur hits the shelves as well. It looks sort of promising.

There's a whole list of them, most already have been mentioned.
But first off, why not Elder Scrolls? It is actually a great game with plenty of action in it, and a good storyline to boot.

Baldur's Gate, Divine Divinity (A lot like Diablo 2), Divinity 2, Diablo 2, Magicka, DragonAge, Demons Souls (and Dark Souls), Fable (I would suggest Fable 1/Fable: The Lost Chapters)

And as for the whole Party element, there are definitely a lot of these. Though the main ones that come to mind are all Final Fantasy Related.
This is the only guy who knows what is up. Albeit, I would amend it and say just play Fable 1 and Lost Chapters.

May I suggest the jak and Daxter series?

Very fun open world games. Plenty of action. Give it a look.
