How do you feel about developers introducing multiplayer to obviously single-player campaign driven games? Recently I just read that the new Tomb Raider is going to make a go at multiplayer. I can't help but feel this is going to be a boat load of crap. What do you think? And can you think of other examples?

I'm against it for the most part, since most tacked-on multiplayer modes are hopelessly vestigial and pointless (especially if they have those stupid online passes). However, they added a multiplayer mode to Assassin's Creed back in Brotherhood and I really enjoyed that. It got back to the roots of stealthy stabbing that have become more and more absent in the series.

We have yet to know if Tomb Raider will be campign multiplayer or just random deathmatch or specific co-op levels or something.
But yeah, it can be annoying. Good fun if you've got a mate with you though.

Kind of like how Bioshock 2 introduced multiplayer that I didn't care for at all. It seems these days all games HAVE to have multiplayer. *eye roll*

I literally heard a 'dude bro' say that he thought Bioshock was 'gay' cause there was no multiplayer and then he ran into my knife. He ran into my knife 37 times. Tragic accident.

*sigh*

So, the M-Virus strikes again! I?ve lived in the ?multiplayer is a disease? crowd long enough to automatically recoil at announcements like Tomb Raider. One of my favorite franchise too...

That been said. I?m willing to see what?s in store first, I made the same comment about Uncharted 2 and that turned out to be an enjoyable multiplayer so I guess I will just have to hold tight for now.

I'm playing FarCry 3 at the moment and that has a multiplayer mode I will never touch!

Well the main reason developers are doing it is to slap an Online pass on it. Having said that I'l judge ever MP individually.

I did enjoy ACBs Online mode for a while but it did get boring pretty fast I barely touched AC:R and AC3s, I think God of War: Ascensions looks kind of fun too, despite being probably the best example of a series that doesn't need MP.

That's really how to measure the online in these games. Is the mode being added because the developers feel it will add something new and exciting to a franchise or is it the publishers wanting a reason to justify an online pass in the box.

Also multi-player takes up disc space and the Xbox 360 seems to be the default for many multi-platform games. How much single player content is going to be cut in order for there to be room for the multi-player on the DVD disc.

I think the multiplayer for Mass Effect 3 is OK, but I'd rather it have been cut. I could go with the argument that they could have used those resources for the main game, but that's neither provable nor disprovable.

But it would at least maybe make the game playable offline. OK, you can play it offline. It just won't save. Pretty harsh, though.

I will give examples of really bad multiplayer: Red Dead Redemtion(constant spawn killing), Spec Ops the Line, Dead Space 2, Bioshock 2. Never even bothered to play Spec Ops multiplayer.

They were missing one thing in newer games, advanced wanted.

Wanted has very little to do with stealth, it's more like abusing when the target spawns within your field of vision. Advanced wanted uses skills based on patterns to tell who is AI and human.
