My school's system has hilariously bad priorities, not so much for what it blocks, but for what it doesn't, considering its main goal is to keep students on-task.

For example, it doesn't block YouTube, web comics or TV Tropes. I don't think I need to explain why that isn't a very good idea.

But for something a bit more on-topic, my school blocks anything related to the word "game" up to and including Wikipedia articles about video games... but not TV Tropes articles about video games.

In fact, nothing on TV Tropes is blocked, including the forums. Maybe that has something to do with my complete lack of productivity in classes with computers.

4chan is...but I understand that.

Wikipedia is because my school is fucking retarded and believes everything on there is a lie.
Google is because of the Google suggestion "WHAT ARE THESE STRAWBERRIES DOING ON MY NIPPLES?: I NEED THEM FOR THE FRUIT SALAD!" that my friend got when he tried to type in "What are the strengths in a communist economy?". Nice one there, Google...although, it may have been his fault.
Dictionary because the retarded computer teacher thinks its the same as Urban Dictionary (there was a craze in which we'd look up a name, find the most insulting definition, print it and stick it to that person's locker...I admit to starting that here).

My school doesn't block much, but I go to a institute, not high school or anything, so they aren't all that strict. However, oddly enough, youtube is not blocked, but Hulu.com is. Which is funny, because youtube does have some content that is copyright infringement, Hulu is 100% legal.

My High School isn't too bad. They block Facebook, Myspace, social networking sites like that. But Youtube isn't blocked, because despite containing a lot of "inappropriate" content, it still has a lot of use. One of my teachers last year used it quite often in his government class, another teacher has his own channel with videos he posted.

And most flash game sites aren't blocked unless they are violent. And even then, some of the less known places like http://www.totaljerkface.com/. The terrible computers there can even run my beloved Happy Wheels on low settings. Although it's only a matter of time before that place gets blocked. It has violence!

Youtube, Escapist, sometimes Wikipedia, any comics, Explosm....my school blocks anything that doesn't have either an educational purpose or happy faces splattered all over along with a squirrel in a top hat and two dogs fornicating on a math textbook.

My school used to block anything with the word "bomb" in it, and I think just about anything meaning "fight". God forbid you had history to do.
Just today I was researching the French and Indian War for history, and it blocked a site due to "Weapons".

At my school you can't google the word "Nazi", which made it difficult to research my history project on Swiss complicity with Nazi Germany.

I think the only sites which I've noticed my school blocking are social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. Our school's pretty lenient, which is good. Even YouTube is allowed, because there is some educational stuff on it. There are supervisors in all the computer labs though, and they'll kick you out if they see you watching non-educational videos or playing flash games or something.

There were a lot of website that were blocked at my school, as the school staff didn't really want us on the internet unless for school work.

One particularly interesting website being blocked was noob.us. Now some of you might expect it to be blocked, but it was why it was blocked that was the interesting thing. There are videos, games, adult material, blogs; plenty of reasons to block it. Why was Noob.us blocked? Tastelessness. Yeah, tastelessness.

My School is kind of an odd case. They're pretty good with blocking reasonable sites for a High School environment without being totally ridiculous.

The sites they block are Gamespot, Newgrounds, AddictingGames.com, and...actually that's pretty much it, they seem to just block out mainly Flash Game hosting site. However, that's the funny part.

You can still go on multiple Flash Hosting sites, albeit, smaller ones. You can still go to multiple video game related sites such as The Steam Forums, The Escapist, Destructoid, etc. You can go to multiple web comics.

The ODDEST thing however is that Penny Arcade is blocked which is just baffling.

At work they block nothing on the internet, what they tried to do instead was turn the internet off.

That worked whilst the average age was 40+ and no one knew how to use a computer, but since a few younger guys have came in, we've unlocked the internet and have pretty much free reign. We like the use of the internet though so we avoid porn or any NSFW sites.

One guy goes on Ebay and bids on items whilst he's supposed to be working, I mainly go on youtube to listen to music or watch funny videos.
