Darth Volitus strode calmly back into the Jedi Academy and sought out the hiding places of all of the students there. One by one he lured them out where he could subdue them, and placed them, still secured, in his personal shuttle. When he had all twenty nine students secured, he flew the shuttle back to the headquarters. There, he made the Acolytes carry the bound and gagged Jedi trainees into the commons area of the Headquarters and take turns practicing torturing. Then he systematically explained why the death of innocents was a necessity more often than not in battle.
"You see, we learned under Emperor Palpatine that the populace will turn on you, whether or not you are helping improve their lives over the long run. All they care about is the here and now, and if you pacify them NOW, they will remember that fear LATER."
"But isn't that just terrorism writ large?" One acolyte had the sense to ask.
"Yes, but if we inflict that terror on our enemies, and then maintain the strength to back up any further threats, it will no longer be necessary to inflict further pain on other members of the populace. Watch how the Jedi Younglings behave when we begin torturing them. It will all become clear then."
And sure enough, as the Acolytes began punishing the Jedi for their insulting disregard for Sith Teachings, the Acolytes began to enjoy the lesson, both teaching and learning. The violence continued well into the night, with the Acolytes finally expending themselves on the their opponents in a brutal and gory fashion.
"Remember this lesson always. A Sith is feared, not held in awe or as an inspiration. Sith are not worshiped for their fighting ability, but held up as an example of why war should be avoided at all costs. A Sith makes not friends, but battlefield allies that are in turn discarded of as soon as possible. Friendships can be exploited, and are in turn a weakness. I am not saying you shouldn't trust one another, quite the opposite. On the field of battle, only a Sith may trust another Sith, and even then, only as long as your eyes are open."
"There are no innocents in war, only those that do not openly show their allegiance. Be wary most of all of these people, for their allegiance is NEVER to you. Remember the brutality you visited on your Jedi Opponents this night, for you shall be called on to do far worse than this at many points in this campaign, and for the rest of your life. Take pleasure in it, and no one can stop you, not even Lord Corruptus."
