Since when does a game have to be revolutionary in every way to qualify as a good game. Why can't the game being fun (which is, you know, the whole point of video games) be a good enough reason to play the game.
Since never, since I never said that. Next time read before you post.

PS3. There is your problem. Fucking console-kids these days.

Will judging the game when i have played it, now on what some random ass-hat on the internet thinks. Also, the VA is better, that is one point they really improved on.

There's a few Let's Plays on Youtube for those who don't mind being spoiled of early game stuff.
Look's good from what I've seen, but I've been skipping as to avoid spoilers and what not.

This one has three episodes so far.

Well I planned on keeping NPC interaction to a minimum where I can anyways so I should be able to ignore most of the problems you mentioned. I'm here to hunt dragons and kick ass, and there seems to be plenty of both.

Except that they did change things. I haven't even played it and I know that. How about the voice acting? Is it as repetitive? 12 voice actors vs. the now 70 voice actors? Come on.

Yes, they did change 'things'. But not what I mentioned.

Also I didn't even go into the voice acting (which is fine in Skyrim btw), what are you even talking about?

News of the hour. Elder Scrolls game is broken and lacks immersion!

Tune in later for our special report on a bear shitting in the woods, including an exclusive interview with the bear!

The downside of getting it early is no day one patch.
This is one of my biggest criticisms of oblivion. The amount of required patching, both official and fan made is borderline ridiculous. Day one patches for a brand new game is not something that should be expected or required

If this leads to idiotic fanboys coming in here to rage and not even finish reading the post, that's their problem, not mine.
It is... I've seen you whine once or twice on almost every page about people not reading. :p

Really, everyone knew Skyrim was being developed for consoles, so it being technologically outdated is hardly news.

You say you like it, and that's good, really. :D But you only pointed out and extrapolated on its flaws, which could easily paint this as a run-of-the-mill hate thread... that was the vibe I got when I read it the first time, I'll admit.

Oh, and your ending line:

Oh well, it'll still be a nice walk-in-the-mountains simulator.
Doesn't really strike me as praise, so much as a sarcasm-fueled final stab. :/

Might be worth your time to edit in a sentence or two (more would be better, of course) of actual praise into that post, otherwise you'll still be getting a steady stream of ragers... just sayin'. :<

Oh well that's not good to hear. Hopefully the day one patch will fix the worst of it. The rest can be modded out.

Eh, you're probably right about all of this. Oh well, at least the thread got really long and led to some discussion, what better purpose for a thread eh? :)

Just to get this out of the way (not aimed at you): I really am not trolling. I didn't even give this thread an offensive name to get a rise out of people or get a lot of replies, but it sure as shit did work.

I know it's wrong, but... I'm awfully proud of my first reply. :p

Anyhoo, this whole thread actually kept me entertained since it went up, which has made this last couple of days of waiting to play pass by that much quicker, so... thanks. >^w^< (Khajiit ftw... meow)

To be fair, with such a huge open world, there are going to be countless issues. Even if they spent years play testing I doubt they'd find them all.
Frankly I'm glad that they didn't just sit on their hands once the code had been dispatched for shipping, and continued to work on sorting out those bugs.

I'm still massively excited. Oblivion was what got me into western RPG's, before that it was all sport sims and shooters. If Skyrim is nothing more than a massive Oblivion expansion I still can't wait.

Thats a little disheartening to hear, although not entirely unexpected.
Although i'll have to decide for myself once i get it and hopefully the PC modders can fix anything i dont like.
But literally every pre-release review, preview, image and footage from the game disagrees with what this guy is saying, none of it tainted with "look how awesome we are" bias from the company and all of it filled with "this is awesome, buy it when it comes out" bias from the reviewers and critics who got to preview it. All of them got this impression from 360 versions, so unless the 360 got lots of good stuff while the PC and PS3, arguably the more powerful platforms got LESS (unlikely) then this is probably a load of bunk. Either that or he's hardly played the game.

What'll it be, believe this one guy or keep your chin up and see what it's like when it's actually, y'know, released?
My copy got sihpped yesterday, so hopefully i should have it tomorrow meaning i can see for myself :)
I havent actually watched any of the press release stuff, apart from seeing a few screen shots the game will be completely fresh for me.

The thing is, most of the stuff that guy said, was just as bad in fallout as it was oblivion, so it wouldnt surprise me if they hadnt fixed it for skyrim. Either way im still going to enjoy the game.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't think I would need to remind you of your own post. Allow me to then:

Yes, it looks nice, but why does everything else feel the same?
Now, I had some fun with Oblivion, it's a good game, especially for its time, but why is the ONLY damn thing they've improved over the years the graphics?
You spoke dogmatically. You made blanket statements that said nothing was improved but the graphics. Instead, you should have just complained about what you didn't like, because there are MANY improvements to the game, probably ones you didn't notice (and shouldn't be expect to as things are less visible when they work right).

How about dual wielding? Combination spells? Finishing move animations? Ability perks? New spells like clairvoyance so you never get lost? Do these count as "nothing"?

If you want to complain about specific things, be my guest. Strike that, I ENCOURAGE you to do that. Don't make blanket statements though, they'll almost always be wrong.

See how I said "almost" right there?

Whats that, the games appear to have a similar engine? The same proprietary engine they used for a majority of there games? Someone sound the alarm, they didn't create a new engine for the game!

Actually the things you address are mostly the issues that aren't going to change, like physics, because altering them is very time intensive and beyond the scope of the project, or things that the industry as a whole is not developing properly, like AI. We shall see what the fan reaction is in a few days.
